Can anyone recommend a good pest control company that will do a pest control contract for ants? We have a small child so we want no spraying done in the house and are worried about the use of poisons.

If you are able to keep these away from you're small child, these really work. Go to Food Lion and I forget what they are called, but they are kind of like a "roach" motel for ants. There were 4 small white "motels" and what happens is the ants went in and carried the bait back to the nest, (outside somewhere) killing the rest of them. We usually get ants in the spring and fall. (I believe that this is due to the cool weather.) This spring we had tons of them and these things did the trick. We basically put them on the floor where the majority of the ants seemed to be getting in at(A small hole in the foyer). After a few days, they were gone.
Again, CAUTION If you are concerned about you're child getting to these, don't use them. (My kids are older). If you can put them somewhere, where you are certain he/she won't, a couple of bucks is a lot cheaper than calling an exterminator. They do work.

They are called "Ant Traps" and you can put them under the fridge, under the dishwasher and under other places...
wahser/dryer, water heater, behind the toilet...
The baby won't get in to them if you put them places that can't be reached.
We have nosey cats and they have always ignored them as well.
Yeah they work. My daughter uses some at college now!

Here is a recipe given to me by a coworker which worked like a charm the last time we had ants. I keep a jar of it under my sink at all times. Equal parts of table sugar and 20 Mule Team Borax from the laundry section in the grocery store. Borax is a naturally occurring mineral composed of sodium, boron, oxygen and water and is non-toxic (unless ingested in huge amounts..but then so is chocolate) I mix about one cup of each together. Sprinkle lightly where you see the ants around floorboards, etc. (or around the perimter of your walls outside). Just vacuum up after a day or two. I have no idea why it works, it just does....maybe they get a sugar rush overdose.
