I'd like to believe they are doing this at the SW pool but I'm not sure as we participate on the team out of the Community Center pool. Just last week I did do that myself in fact. Two cars ended up parking on Waxpool, if you can believe it. Another parent and I got the tag #'s, descriptions and had it announced over the sound system. One car got moved in time, another got a deserved ticket since they didn't respond quickly enough.

Steve, then you agree that Broadlands Live should be punished as well? And hold the stores and shopping center responsible for those folks who double park?

I also noted that a red Prius was parked at the corner of Claiborne and Village (facing Nature center) and had driven over the orange cone and parked right next to the stop sign.

    Fritz-
Two things, one of which was answered...if the HOA is allowing an activity that is DANGEROUS, is aware of it and allows it to continue, then we have a huge liability issue that I don't want to assume. Do I consider pedestrian traffic and cars parked legally on both sides off a street a liability? No. When cars are parked illegally and blocking the line-of-sight onto other roads, then yes.
I hold the same standard for Broadlands Live. One difference is they have paid security to help deal with the traffic/parking issues.

I had a good conversation with the head of the swim team today. She assures me that they will take appropriate measures tomorrow to ensure these problems do not occur again.

Lastly, the HOA has not said it will cancel the swim team. To be clear, I said that I would make a recommendation to not allow home swim meets if these problems continue to occur.
I am one vote of nine, and my comment referred to home meets. The swim team can continue to swim at other pools or rent one for "home" meets if all this was to occur.

In fact, the HOA has always been very supportive of the swim team. In previous years, the swim team has been able to manage the parking issue. This year, it's not going as well.
I would recommend that the swim team hire security to monitor and manage the parking for the meets. It may cost a few bucks more per household, but I think it would be worth it.

    Apples and oranges..

    Why?

Because the swim team consists of MEMBERS of their organization. Additionally, they use our facilities conditionally.

Businesses do not have members and do not use or facilities - they have their own. Additionally businesses have requirements on what they must supply for parking.

Broadlands Live - if they had repeated parking issues and failed to organize their event properly - then yes, action should be considered.

First, I’m glad you had a good conversation with the head of the team. I did see in the newsletter today a very strong emphasis on the parking situation and the additional steps they are taking to try and get the parking under control. I hope everyone attending the meet listens and behaves in an appropriate way.

Second, I did understand that it might be your personal and future recommendation as a member of the board, and not an HOA decision at this time, to block the teams from using the pools. Frankly, if this were to happen, it would probably result in the canceling of the team or drastically reducing participation. Seeing how the forums can sometimes get a little out of control I wanted to put some additional thoughts about the team out there for folks, especially those who like to jump on the band wagon or fuel the flames.

Third, I have been involved with the team on various levels for a number of years and truly appreciate the HOA’s strong support for the team. I expect this to continue as there are good people involved. The HOA’s and resident's support has made the Piranhas one of the premier teams in Loudoun County. One that other teams have modeled and frequently feared competing against. J

Update: KUDOS to the swim team, parking appears to be under much better control today. The new signs are great (though one of them blew over in the wind) and nobody moved them and parked illegally (so far and I passed by the marked areas twice, about 40 minutes apart). In a situation similar to one I was in on Wednesday, an oncoming car from Village towards Claiborne was able to see me standing at the corner, waiting to cross the street, and I was not nearly squashed.
Pool team: it may help to invest in a small plastic mallet and a tent stake to drill holes into the rocky clay before sticking the signposts in the ground... may help them stay up better. I'll even donate a set, if you tell me where/when to drop off.

As a nice side effect, people who were not even attending the swim meet were also abiding by the parking signs. I love it. Great job. :)

Yes, huge KUDOS for Saturday's event. I was out early running with the dog and I saw folks standing at the pool entrance and the Nature Center entrance directing folks where to park. It was also nice that you could see coming out of Village onto Claiborne because the cones were properly placed.

If all events were managed this way I'm a full supporter.
