It seems almost every day there is someone sitting in front of the gates waiting to be let in. Either they sneak in the exit when someone leaves, or they speed in right after someone else opens the gate to get in.

What is the point of having a gated community if anyone can just wait for the gate to open and then come right on in.

I was a police officer for 3 years before moving to Virginia so I know that burglers are watching out for things like this.

Does Southern Walk have any plans to remedy this kind of thing? Would other residents have a problem with blocking the gate with their vehicles while the gate closes so that no unathorized vehicles enter the property? I know it would be annoying if you are a resident to have to go through the gate single-file... AM I BEING TOO PICKY ABOUT THIS?

At the very least, a camera could be installed that captures license plates and vehicle descriptions in the event that a burglery does occur.

The Apartments are controled by the owners of the Apartments, Van Metre. The Broadlands HOA (and by extension the Southern Walk HOA) has absolutely no control as to what goes on in the area inside the qates.

I know it sounds like a flip answer, but its the only answer; if you have a security issue, I suggest that you speak to the Apartment Management office about it.

FWIW ... I've lived at a few apartment communities with gates while looking for or waiting for a house to be built, and I've seen this type of issue at all of them.
