TiVo has recently upgraded their software so the TiVo box can connect directly to Motorola DCT2000-series cable boxes, like the ones Adelphia uses. This connection is a replacement for the "IR Blaster" method of changing channels. Using a direct serial connection is more reliable and faster, but it requires that Adelphia activate the serial port on the DCT2000 digital cable box.

To date I've been unable to get Adelphia to activate the port. They don't seem interested in supporting TiVo users. I'd like to find out if anyone else has had any success. If not, then I'd like to collect names of other TiVo users in Ashburn so we can collectively contact Adelphia to make this change for all of us.

    Thank you!

John, I actually talked to them about a year ago about just this point (before I switched to Dish Network and told Adelphia to go to hell).

Basically, they need to upgrade the firmware in the units. And according to what some engineers told me, it will never happen. Turns out that any new firmware causes issues on their network. Some kind of bad implementation on their part. And since they are basically a 'bankrupt' company at this point, don't count on them spending ANY money just to make 'Tivo' users happy...

Now, I'm with Dish and I still have to use the IR Blaster with my Tivo units, but at least I don't have to deal with clueless Adelphia employees...

I also talked with Adelphia recently regarding HDTV via cable, and proper use of the Dolby Digital sound that we should be receiving for HBO, Showtime, etc... guess what, no plans in the next year or more. I also had them check my signal for quality (due to graininess) and the answer was "signal is strong, just don't watch the non digital channels on a large screen where you can see the details"... well the signal was strong OUTSIDE my house, but once it was inside, it was crap at the outlets, and Adelphia blames Verizon hub, and Verizon blames Adelphia. and so on
