Mike and Kim - The lack of a tail plume is not mange. Most likely it is the result of an encounter with a medium or larger dog or adult coyote. Foxes are opportunists and will eat just about anything they can find in the yard including small cats and very small dogs. Also be aware that as the population gets larger they are prone to rabies which they can spread by biting to household pets or even residents
