Hi there-my husband just found a bunch of old 8mm tapes from our old video camera that we no longer have. We really would like to transfer the tapes but need a camera to do it.

Does anyone have an old camcorder that uses 8mm cassette tapes that we could borrow for one night? Or we'd be willing to pay for the rental.

Now here is a good question. I think the 8mm tapes are playable in a Mini DV camcorder... the difference might be that the tapes are recorded in Analog format. My Camcorder, which is Mini DV might convert the tape on the fly and be able to play.

I was looking to do the same thing with tape transfers...but I have so many tapes and too little time. I did use iMemories to transfer some important VHS tapes to digital files and that worked great. Had a good coupon and got a good price for the conversion and saved a ton of time.

You might want to look into this option... see if you can find a coupon code/offer and just pay to have it done. If the tapes are important, might be worth it.

But if you think my camcorder might work you are free to try. Let me know.

Thank you for that info & offer. I was able to borrow a camcorder but the software is so old, it doesn't work with any current operating systems.

We decided to not beat our heads against the wall & are sending them away to be converted. Thanks again
