    Just got this email

    Lee j

    Friends,

Now that the school year is back in full swing and busy Loudoun residents have had a bit of time to catch their breath, it’s time for the next meeting of the Waxpool Road Improvement Task Force. I invite you to join with your neighbors and regional business leaders next Wednesday, October 11, 2007 at 1pm at the Loudoun County Public Schools Administration Building (Conference Room 100B) to continue the initial organizational and planning process necessary to get the Task Force off to a rigorous start. In order for the Task Force to become “official,” our group needs to firm up a work plan for presentation to the Board of Supervisors for review and approval. This will require grass-roots level creativity and initiative from participants. My goal is to generate helpful solutions, but I can’t do this alone. In order for this effort to succeed, input from the real experts in the Waxpool corridor is needed, and that means the residents and business leaders that are driving these roads daily, intimately aware of where the problems are and what needs to be done to solve them. Additionally, we need to finalize the segment divisions and identify all leaders and co-leaders as part of building this formal work plan.

I am happy to announce that Supervisor Lori Waters will be joining the Task Force, leading the effort of the segment encompassing Gloucester Parkway and northern segments of Pacific Boulevard.

It is also worth noting that some key transportation improvements in the Waxpool corridor have been secured since the Task Force initiative began this past May. Funding has been secured for the widening of Waxpool Road to four lanes from Shellhord Road to Unbridled Way (just east of Red Rum Drive). Additionally, full funding has been obtained for the completion of Pacific Boulevard from Auto World Way to Severn Way and completion of ½ section of Pacific Boulevard from Severn Way to the Nokes Boulevard/Rt. 28 interchange has been included in the NVTA funding package.

My hope is that the Waxpool Task Force will add in the coming months much more to this list of road improvements through our effort together. I look forward to seeing all of you next Wednesday!

    Sincerely,

    The Honorable Stephen J. Snow

That's terrific....Lori Waters definitely has our best interests in mind. What a perfect pick to represent. Argh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I cannot wait until November 6th.

Now to being not so cynical...5:00pm meeting? I'd still need to leave 1.5 hrs. earlier from work to pick up kids and then fight traffic on 28 and Waxpool just to get to the meeting on time!

So what is happening from this latest meeting this evening.

Could not attend as most people could not, because it was too early and had work to do. ;) Most of us have jobs that makes it difficult to attend these important meetings at this time of day.;)

    I wish I could of made this meeting and seen what major deep pocket developers were there. I am talking about the real developer people that are going to build the biggest downtown of Loudoun. Was Moorefield;
Loudoun Station; Miller & Smith; represented????
And the other major landholders along the Greenway which will be building the the largest concentration of Residential; Commercial; and Retail in the county. Was Verizon represented? I have heard they don't even want Waxpool cut thru by there buildings.

Saying that, what was shown in the power point presentation sent to me by Steven Snow. Well, much of it is already going to be funded and built by the time Nokes interchange is finished with 28. That includes Pacific and the Waxpool widening. Gloucester is far along to getting done. So what is left in the powerpoint presentation to be funded the rest of Pacific to Sterling Blvd. And a segment to 606 from waxpool that Verizon does not want thru their property anyway. And where is all that new traffic going to come from anyway the almost finished Broadlands????? There is the reservoir that stops any new development beyond it from crossing over.

There is no discussion so far in the power point where most of the traffic will come from. Hellooo that is south of the Greenway and adjacent each side of the Greenway from Ashburn Village Dr to the east.

So lets think about this we need a major connection of Shellhorn to Sterling Blvd. And a major connection to the south of the Greenway to 606 . That is the area with most of the future growth of Loudoun will be concentrated in the new urban downtown of Loudoun county. Don't start building roads in this area that will require major turns to get to 28 because that will only create bigger traffic problems then it will solve.

Anybody that wants a walking and driving tour I will be happy to give it to them so they can see first hand what I am talking about.
Lets not waste time here and lets get the major commercial developers of Loudoun's new downtown involved in the big picture.

Nice to have a little club here but the waxpool task force needs the real big boys to solve this mess before the little club messes it up.

Well that is excellent but where are the rest of the big boys?? Mr Snow scare them off??? Or do they have not much faith in the force???? Miller and Smith are big boys but the majority of the land along the greenway are in the rest of the big boys hands. Comstock (Loudoun Station) Have what I understand plans appoved by the county to start building in a big way soon. Moorefield is in the same position with selling Perterson Companies a chunk of land to start a some major building. There are other developers getting ready soon and they are not attending these meetings. Were the flex boys there??? They are building the great wall of China between AOL and the Airport. How do you plan to break thru that?? Are the flex boys helping???? Two of the most vital connections is a major south side feeder rd from moorefield to 606 again thru the great wall of flex.

The shellhorn connection to the sterling interchange which does not exist even in the planning stage is also curcial and is a straight shot to 28 and guess what even a straight shot to rt 7 simple and works. This weird connection from waxpool past verizon to 606 is nice but all it is going to do dump everything onto 606 and overload that. A connection south and close to the greenway will do a much better job and is less length by far and guess what that is where the new urban centers are first starting. Just where is the money going to come from to build this very long wierd connection from waxpool past the not interested verizon all the way to 606 thru land that is not going to be developed for a long time compared to Moorefield and Loudoun Station make any sense to be on the front burner. Something is wrong with this picture. That route also skirts the great wall of flex. So the million dollar question is the shellhorn rt and the south of the greenway rt which both must go thru the great wall of flex and give us two rt to 28 not one like what is proposed so far thru land that is not even being developed at the moment, well are the flex boys so scary to deal with you all want to skirt them and just have one main rt to 606 where all the traffic funnels and have eventually even a bigger problem then we now have on waxpool when those massive urban centers get built. Get real, people are not going to use the greenway as the tolls rise, so until that is resolved if ever the greenway is not a major help. The subway will be enormous help but not for local traffic.

OK that is enough for me tonight I think:)

    Lee and others--

I am telling "y'all"--you are missing your calling. You need to run as an Independent--give Snow a run for the "money".;)

By the way, Lee, do not get "Snow-ed under" in the melee of politics.

    Have a good weekend--

    Lee-
You obviously have passion for this issue. Get involved. Ranting here gets nothing done.

You are correct Cliff I am passionate about it.

I keep hoping this task force will move beyond a turtles pace and get the real big players involved in a meaningful way. Since April or May every meeting has been repetitious and the same thing over and over and now it is November for another meeting and for what to break up into committees to repeat the same old same old.
"Yep we have identified the problem here; here is what will be built and committed to; here are some more solutions and yep we have no money, perhaps we should get the deep pocket developers involved but only one shows up Miller & Smith. now what??? yep now split into committees so we can keep talking and talking. and on and on.

I love you all working on this committee and I am impressed that you all put so much time into this, butttt for me it is too slow moving and some land will be built on before some important connections can be made and then what. We now try to buy or condemn these new buildings to get an important connection or do we keep thinking about a hodpodge of a road system later and say we couldn't any better. This task force is not working on a major part of Loudoun just a lot of density is going to be there. Not difficult to figure out the road system the big picture can be done in a week or less. It is getting it built that seems to be the difficulty and without the big boys actively participating with their pocket books I don't see much good for the extreme amount of time that is going into this for what major result that the people that drive in traffic will see that won't get built anyway in due time. I see no way to speed up any of these timetables without there money. Not much coming from the government anytime soon.

I will shut up for awhile anyway:)

    Goodbye

    Lee j

I wish I could but I don't work well in these kind of task forces way too slow moving for me.

I get this all the time too. The majority of people are so NOT into politics or the governing and planning of their community that when they come across someone who is interested, they tell them they should run for office. Of course, I'm sure a lot of people who DO run for office come from this smaller pool of active people. But this seems dismissive to me, especially this close to an election. Obviously, Lee, who has said several times he avidly supports Stevens Miller for supervisor after being undecided for a while, would not now run a write-in campaign as an independent 2 weeks before the election. He has someone in this race who he supports and has reasons for it and wants to tell you. Someone suggested he run for school board in another thread. Again, Kevin Turner is already doing that if you want an alternative to our current school board representative. The point is, you have 2 weeks to decide who YOU want to vote for. Decide. Go vote. And realize that some people who are really into this stuff have already decided and are trying to convince you why they are right.
