For the second time in a month we've gotten a company that is pest control and very pushy no matter how many times you tell them to go away (not to mention my "no soliciting sign in plain view"), they still want to show you something terribly wrong outside that is eating at your house and they try and get you to go look with them. It's a bunch of young dudes dressed in white in a white police looking car driving around yesterday and hopping out on different blocks. A couple weeks ago it was another company.... Does the community have any rules about such solicitation??

First thing you need to ask them is for their Loudoun County permit allowing to solicit door to door. That will usually stop 75% of the solicitors in their tracks. The other 25% who have gone through the proper 'permit' process usually are a tad more professional and will bow to your request to be left alone.

If they have no permit, you can call the Loudoun County Sheriff's non-emergency number and and let them know, especially if you have a description of the vehicle, individuals, etc.

The person who was here last week did not have his permit and when I told him I was calling the cops he took off running. It was actually very funny to watch. The one today (in the white) had his permit but when he started his pitch I told him I was very happy with my pest control. He did ask who it was and I nicely told him it was none of his business - he had no reason to know it was me - and shut the door.
If after you open the door and verify their permit do not want the sale just state no thank you and shut the door. Do not feel you need to talk to them (especially if you have a no solicitor sign)
I would if I were you file a complaint with the county about the company if you felt they were being pushy and if you clearly had a no solicitor sign that they chose to ignore. It may not pull their permit this time but it may in a future application if they have several complaints.

Just don't open the door if you don't know the person. That keeps the discussion short.

Yup - good advice - I never open my door either and they tend to come during the dinner hour as well....rules in our house, no phone calls or answering the doorbell.

Don't forget that if they refuse to leave your property, then they are trespassing.

Take of picture ofthem on your phone, dial LCSO, wait for the officer and have them pick the person up in the cruiser.

I actually did this once and the officer put the person in he back of the cruiser and brought him back. I could have pressed charges at the time, but I was feeling nice that day.
