Yummy Pink Slime

By now you've probably heard about Pink Slime; a beef-like product created by grinding together connective tissue and beef scraps normally used in dog food, and treated with ammonia hydroxide to kill salmonella and E. coli. This practice has been going on quietly for years AND with USDA and FDA's full knowledge.

Well now, the USDA wants schools to have a choice whether or not to include this in their lunch program. Unfortunately, due to lower cost, schools in poorer districts will most likely be the benficiaries of this inferior beef by-product the USDA regards as suitable for human consumption.

Currently, there is no way to know if your product contains Pink Slime as no labeling is required. Some stores will not disclose if they sell it and others, like Cosco claim not to carry it at all. For all you fast food junkies, you'll be happy to hear that McDonalds, Wendys, and Burger King, have stopped using it.

So why all the hoopla? Is it really all that bad for us? You decide.

 

Beyond gross, of all the things that are legislated AGAINST....this should absolutely be one of them.
