    Folks---

Be on the lookout on Ridgeway Drive...Someone attempted to break into my house on Ridgeway last night around 3 AM. I think I scared that person off when I came running into the kitchen and turned on the lights to investigate the noise...That person attempted to bust into the door off the deck.

Where on Ridgeway? Top, middle, or bottom of the hill?

Because of kids or other people trolling to see results of their handiwork, Im not going to say where because I want the police to catch these punks--whoever they are. Police have been contacted and they are working on it.

They've been causing problems all over the place on Ridgeway Drive.

It's all public information, so not giving your neighbors the info is simply making it harder for them to protect themselves.

That being said, folks can find the info they are looking for on incidents in our area at the following link:

    http://www.crimereports.com/map/index/?search= +Ashburn+VA

There should be an entry for the incident the original poster mentioned if the LCSO filed a report, once the data makes its way through the system. They're pretty up to date though in most cases.

The data is supplied directly from the LCSO, since it's PUBLIC INFORMATION. Witholding information from your neighbors in a case like this is the BAD thing to do...

    Just my 2 cents.

With kids and other people TROLLING on this forum, I just DON'T FEEL comfortable posting information where it happened. I don't want kids/trollers to hit me twice. Lastly I know is that all of Ridgeway is at risk because Im hearing that Ridgeway has been hit at the bottom, top, and middle.

I noticed that many bikes/toys are being left outside in the middle of the night and no one is taking action to put the bikes/toys inside the garage..that was over the weekend. This entices crooks/vandals to steal these toys...I fail to understand why people aren't doing anything to protect their valuables yet complain that someone took it or the like. I think the greatest prevention of theft is to lock up these stuff or put it in the garage...Takes 5 mins of people's time versus alot more time (and money) to replace these items along with the aggravation of doing so.

Nobody asked where you lived. They asked if the incident occurred at the top, middle or bottom of Ridgeway. The 'perps' that allegedly tried to break into your home already know where you live, since they were there...

Mr. Linux, thanks for posting that crime reports website on here! It looks like it's very up-to-date, there's an assault reported from yesterday afternoon. I'm sharing that link with all my neighbors....

I did state that it occurred in Ridgeway however, the police reports do not exactly state WHICH house it occurred at..It does say the street...so I did say Ridgeway Drive...Whoever attempted to break into my house could have tried somewhere else on Ridgeway but I've learned that not everyone may report it to the police or not as the police officer has told me in the past that not every incident is reported. It all depends on the resident wanting to report it or not. I could have called the police and NOT stated so on the forum but I am giving everyone on Ridgeway a heads up beause the perpetrator may hit someone else anywhere along that road. Doesn't matter if its at the top, bottom or the middle...these perps can hit anywhere they want to go. All I am doing is giving a heads up on this.

I've been hit before..this is NOT the first time it happened. Who knows if this is a copy cat or if its the same person or not. I remember around last December my car was busted into and the cops felt that the same person also hit several othe Ridgeway homes all along the road. He said that perps often will hit several homes all along the road not just concentrating on ONE part of the road. They often will roam up and down the road until they find something they wanted (or more).

Like Redon1 stated..they are tired of this crap and we badly need a neighborhood watch program here but I've learned on the forum that one was started then it died out due to non-interest. I guess the likelihood of becoming victims over and over will be there until we begin a neighborhood watch program again. This may be the best deterrent we have aside from calling the cops after the incident happens. Im willing to get involved if this means helping the street get some abatement from this crime spree (if there is such a thing?)

Several things have happened as far as I know such as:

    Breaking into cars
    Attempted Break into house
    Damaging of property

That's all I know thus far after living here for nearly a year...This is quite bit to me after moving from Fairfax County where we had more police presence in our neighborhood and others near us after someone reported kids vandalizing the neighborhood...the increased patrols for months helped to drive down the problem to virtually zero.

What we need is an increased police presence around Broadlands...Our street is pretty much away from everything so its kinda isolated, I would think?

i have to defend capricorn on this one- let me tell you why. i was accosted in a parking lot near work a few months ago. i was digging around in my purse, juggling a phone and a book, parked off to the side of a parking lot, away from everyone, where it was difficult to see me on the driver's side of my vehicle. as i disappeared- oblivious to my surroundings- to my drivers side, a man approached me from behind and asked for directions to someplace unintelligible even though everything ELSE he said was clear. I was SO shocked b/c I hadn't noticed him at ALL, and NOW I was alone, not in view, and had spidey senses that said he was up to no good.

i told him i couldn't help him, still digging for my friggin keys, he kept moving closer to me- i said loudly to him "DON'T COME ANY CLOSER" and he got a creepy grin and said "are you scared?" and I said loudly again "NO- but I can't help you."

finally got my keys, opened my door- he is now approaching my rear driver side door. I slid back into my seat with my feet facing out to kick him if necessary and now I yelled REALLY LOUD- "GET AWAY FROM MY CAR!" if you know me, you know my lungs, and THAT spooked him- and he sauntered away. had i reacted differently i am VERY sure accosted would have become assaulted. had I not had my head up by hind parts, i likely would never have even been APPROACHED.

when i sent an email to my coworkers about being vigilant in parking lots, and walking to cars- be aware of your surroundings, the first question i was asked was "what did he look like?" I refused to answer that because HE wasn't the problem- my lack of awareness was. ANYONE with bad intentions could have looked at the same opportunity to attack someone and taken it, so again HIS look wasn't important- our BEHAVIOR is.

there's not a cat burglar sitting at one end of the street only robbing certain homes- these thugs are moving and roaming and looking for easy opps by checking car doors, open windows, unsecured doors. they are looking for clueless residents who think "this is a safe neighborhood- NOTHING could happen here" and stealing their bikes and scooters and other toys laying around in the street.

so where really isn't an issue- EVERY WHERE is a potential target. EVERYONE should be vigilant and stop creating crimes of opportunity that draw in :censored: to our neighborhood. do what WE did, take some time after dark and roam around the streets with a few other adults and let them know we ARE watching- go be a thief , vandal or :censored: someplace else because WE will CATCH you HERE.

whew... sorry- that was long even by MY standards...

Exactly my point....it can happen ANYWHERE along Ridgeway Drive and I have seen at the TOP of Ridgeway Drive several homes where several bikes and more were laying outside of the house after 10PM unlocked! My first thought was ...they are just begging to be stolen!!! I have always made it my resolve to lock up stuff in the garage so I won't have to go through the aggravation of reporting it to the cops, going out to get a new one, and SPENDING my hard earned bucks on it. Its simply cheaper to lock it up!

Ridgeway is full of state and federal law eforcement residents. Can't wait until they pick the wrong house - that will stop the bad actors more effectively than our seldom seen rent-a-cop cruising around in a late model sedan.

Whadda mean we have rent-a-cop tooling around here? Last I heard the Broadlands HOA doesn't have any cop services for us.

I think what Shim means is that there are a bunch of them that live around here. Some are obvious because of the cars parked in front of their houses. Some aren't obvious, but neighbors know them and know who they are.
