    Gaming Gurus--

Do not forget to save receipts so if Wii is cheaper elsewhere (competitors with proof of ad) --merchants like Toys R Us will refund difference or if merchants own price is cheaper at some later date--you can get difference back for your purchases.

Merchants also call "price matching" by "price guarantees". You might also download an ONLINE AD and see if "bricks and mortar" stores will match prices. We did this for appliances recently and other purchases.

    Good luck--

    Gameplaying Gurus--

Sorry I couldn't help it--here are some web sites you might try for Online Coupon deals for the Wii as well as other games, etc.

www.dealcatcher.com (Dealcatcher is a favorite resource we use when buying online products. They show various manufacturers of all items not just games, etc.)

www.dealsea.com (Dealsea is another resource to check out for savings, etc.)

As you know if you also Google for Nintendo Wii and also type Online Coupon Offers...--you can locate other resources for "cheap savings" on all types of Consumer Goods.

Mr Linux - how young is your very young?

My kids are 7 & 4 and we don't have a gaming system yet. Wondering if it's worth it to splurge for the Wii - or just start 'em out with a GameCube.

My 4 year old loves the Wii and plays as much as we let her. Her biggest hurdle is reading, not playing/controlling the system. There are plenty of simple minigames that help them learn how to master the controls.

My 4 year old now plays Legend of Zelda!

Another trick is if you see Toys R Us is going to have it in stock via their paper ads, check online at Toysrus.com and they will have some in stock too. I did this last month and was able to avoid the store completely. It was definately worth the extra money for shipping.

Our 6 & 3 year old love it- but mainly the 3 year old watches and gives the 6 year old directions for "her turn". mario party 8 is really great, and they love to bowl on the sports game that came with it. there is also a Mii program that allows them to create avatars for themselves. they have made avatars for all of our family and friends too!
HOWEVER, i will say that i was against the system. my husband loves video games- so he justified it in his head, but the cost is too much if you ask me. i don't really let them play on a frequent basis, so they only get on it like 1 time a week, sometimes less-rarely more.
there are lots of games online like on webkinz.com & shiningstars.com (these 2 require purchase of the stuffed animal you "adopt") and noggin.com nickjr.com playhousedisney.com even barbie, wiggles, bratz - they all have sites.
fwiw the wii is fun- but expensive.

Hello all - saw a Wii for sale on CraigsList for $299. Some might consider this an easy way out to avoid the time and aggrivation it takes to shop around. Since $249 is the normal cheap price $50 more seems not too bad.

My 5 year old (6 in February :)) mastered the Wii within a couple days. The trick is to get the right games. As with any gaming system, pay close attention to the game ratings, and ask around if you're interested in a game. Our daughter loves Mario Party 8 and Smooth Moves. Both these games are composed of a series of 'mini games', which is great, since they're all different and kids get bored a lot less quickly. If you find a game you think you would like to get your child, post the title here and I'm sure other parents will be happy to give your their thoughts on it. Amazon also has good reviews with 'age appropriateness' in mind...

Our 1 year old just likes the music. We don't really let him watch any TV. When my parents visited a few months ago, they thought it was a lot of fun, and they're 'older' ;)

Also, we had a coworker over a couple months ago with her husband and we all spent the evening playing Wii games, including our daughter. The Wii is the great 'equalizer'!

We got the Nintendo Gamboy DS (the one w/the touch screen & stylus) and there is a game with Wario & it's full of mini-games. Can't remember the actual name but something like Wario Party? Anyway, our (at the time) 4 year old got hooked & ended up doing the games way better than her father or I. It was great for her hand/eye coordination & just normal comprehension. Of course, they also have children's games that are fun too!
