Wanted to make sure this is at least kept to during the week. From what i hear from people, they are huge teams and breaking up the lawns really bad (and we just got marked this week). I imagine this is also pretty noisy and disruptive, so just wanted to make sure it is happening only during the week normal working hours? Anyone know?

    Thanks,

Why would it be limited to the week? Construction is allowed all week long if the companies want it. They are only limited by noise ordinances and agreements.

As for how bad the damage is.. just visit for yourself areas that have been previously done.

When they did the digging for us, it wasn't noisy and they put the sod back down...not entirely level, but at least they attempted.

Well, they are on Chicacoan right now and I can here the air generator from here. (Marsh Creek Drive) Considering I work out of my own home office, and am on calls most of the time, Im going to be pissed if they park that in front of my house during the work week.

As I type, they just layed out big orange cable on the street. To quote Ray Bradbury, "Something wicked this way comes".

So, does anyone know what are the legal allowed hours for them to work (make noise)?

    Thanks -

    Brewer

Ok, got it. Gotta ask though, isnt that outside the HOA's quiet hours?

Redon1 - Oh, heck yes, I'm just peeved because I just put in a sprinklers system and had the driveway re-done. (not to mention the whole working from home thing) I'm afraid they are both going to get damaged one way or another. AND....I have a ton a family coming in for my daughters first birthday in a week and I'll have to answer the same question 100 times. "What the heck happened to your lawn"

    1 word: FIOS. lol

yeah, Brewer, sounds like bad timing for you, but will they put things back the way they found them after wreaking FIOS havoc on the lawns and driveways of the 'hood?

Ivy H. Smith, LLC was the contractor who is doing my neighborhood (not Broadlands) and may be doing your street (they've already put in ticket requests @ Miss Utility for four address on Marsh Creek).

In my neighborhood, they've been working from about 7:30am until around 5pm. They did not work last weekend, but I see no reason why they can't.

They did not damage my driveway in any way. I wasn't home when they worked on that part, but I would have liked to have seen the equipment they use to go beneath the driveway. While they do use equipment for some of the work, there was still a lot of pick axes and shovels in use.

They patched up my lawn using the grass sections that they took up, and placed lawn seed over top of the patches as well. It doesn't look that bad, although the middle of summer isn't the best time to get sod and seed to take. I plan to get my lawn aerated and overseeded next month anyway.

All in all, my yard was affected for exactly one day start-to-finish.

I am trying to figure out what the benefits of FIOS are. We're not tech savvy people, in fact we're technologically illiterate!. We currently have comcast cable and internet (never had a problem in the 9 years here) and verizon telephone. Use our PC for e-mail, work, etc. no gaming or anything difficult (wouldn't even know how). Have TIVO so don't need DVR. Haven't switched to HD cable box because we would have to redo TIVO set up and have someone come back out to do that for us. Yes we are morons, we don't even text message! Moron's who know diddly squat about FIOS. So is it just a better picture and faster internet?

Also, does anyone know what Verizon will charge for Fios after their introductory rate period is over?

Lastly, I have heard nothing but horror stories from people whose yards have been damaged by Verizon's contractors. All are Fairfax County residents. County Supervisors in some districts have been keeping a close eye on Verizon and putting pressure on them to correct problems. Have a good friend who, along with here cul-de-sac neighbors, refused to let Verizon dig up the front yard. Verizon ended up digging in the street. Her neighbors have noticed that Verizon has been much more careful in yards where someone was home and watching their work.

Can we legally refuse to let them dig up our yard if they are not on an easement? Have been told by several people to take photographs of the work as well as keep a record of date and time of digging as well as contractors name. In Fairfax, a supervisor is required to be on site when digging is going on. Don't know if it's the same here.

Can't stop utilities from working in the utility easements, which go across all properties.

As a stay-at-home mom watching the Verizon work in my neighborhood, here's my 2 cents. The generators make some noise but they don't seem to be on the entire time. I've never seen them working in my neighborhood on the weekend. Disruption in your yard probably won't be more than a day. I, however, have a corner lot so it may be longer for me.

Our sprinkler people recommended that I turn off the water line for the sprinkler system (not the whole house) while the digging is going on. Although it might be more entertaining to leave it on and watch the fountains when they cut into the lines.

In our neighborhood I've seen one driveway repaved after Verizon's work. I can't say that it was because of something Verizon did, but the driveway was repaved a few days after the work was done. That being said, it was only ONE driveway I saw being done - there could have been more, obviously, but still that seems to be a good sign. Most of the time they seem to dig on either side of the driveway not directly through it.

Verizon is working their way up and down the streets and cul-de-sacs of my neighborhood so it shouldn't be much longer before they get to us. We bought little flags to stick in the ground where the sprinkler heads are so hopefully they'll take heed and not chop into anything.

I hope it all goes smoothly for everyone!

Does anyone know what number to call to inform Verizon about irrigation systems before they dig? I see lines painted on our lawn but we did not get any notice about it.

This has got to be outside of any quiet hours I have ever heard about. There are a lot of families, especially those with small children, that work and go to school and don't stay up past 9 or 10 at night.... There's no way anyone would allow this sort of work outside their home at these late hours.

Wouldn't they stop working when it's dark anyway??

The point was the rules are the same as the county noise ordinances.

The HOA could never enforce any rules of its own on contractors working for someone who is not part of the HOA or it's behalf anyways.

I haven't seem them around here much past 5pm. I can't say how early they start but it doesn't appear to be before 8am from what I can tell around my neighborhood. Nighttime sleep won't be a problem.

FWIW, They tore up our yard quite a bit. But I think they did a pretty good job at seeding and resodding the areas. I can't wait to see the rates in a few months to hopefully save $100 a month.
