Ok, this has gotten to the point of rediculousness. I have now in the last 2 weeks almost gotten hit by people running the stop sign turning left on ridgeway off of Laurier drive (cochrans lock thru way). 2 weeks ago it was a lady in a massive suburban who didn't even bother to look either way and just pulled out then once she saw me after I slammed on my brakes just waved. Then tonight around 7pm I'm driving down ridgeway and a man in a mini van blows thru the stop sign at the same location at probably 15-20 mph. He didn't even bother to slow down. I see this all the time and there has to be something we can do to slow this down. Both times I've had to slam on my breaks to stop otherwise I would have hit these cars not even looking.

These people in this community back there seem to feel ridgeway is a 45mph+ road. I've been flicked off for driving 25 through Claiborne -> Laurier.

Ridgeway is, IMHO, a community embarassment (along with a few other roads). The number of people who speed and disregard Stop signs is insane.

I am thankful I only have to drive it occassionaly. I also think home-owners who live on Ridgeway should start some call-in campaign to the Sheriff's office and get Ridgeway patroled frequently, speed-traps and all!

T8er - couldn't agree with you more. The homeowners in the Villages of Waxpool think Ridgeway is Raceway. It was a STUPID idea to open that 30foot road up and is putting Broadlands residents at risk.

Not only have we asked for more patrols/speed traps & signs, but when Officer Friendly parks out front to hand out invitations to the court house, Brassey takes them water.

I do not live off Ridgeway but whenever I travel on Ridgeway coming into SW, I notice many many cars tailgating me when I go at speed limit. More than half the time they make a speedy right on Laurier.

Not all of them live in Village of Waxpool, I assume, but they are in a hurry to get on Belmont Ridge ?

Either way, we should call Sheriff's office to beef up police presence on Ridgeway !

Speeding on Ridgeway was an issue long before Laurier cut through.
The HOA has already put in a request for Ridgeway to have a $200 additional fine for speeding.

Thanks for requesting the fine increase Cliff. I agree with all the other comments. I think we need to submit reports to the Sheriff's office regularly so they will pay more attention to both Laurier and Ridgeway. Here is a link to the sheriff's office traffic complaint form: http://loudoun.vhost.vipnet.org/sheriff/complaint.htm

From a real estate spotlight article on Village of Waxpool:

Most of the community has been completed though there are still some lots available. They recently opened the backside of the community to Broadlands so you can now cut through Broadlands to shopping and ammenities without having to drive out to Belmont Ridge Rd. :angryfire:

That sounds bad but people from Broadlands can cut through Ashburn Farm to get to shopping and amenities. I used to live in Texas and I don't remember seeing as many low access neighborhoods as here in Ashburn. Of course, the shopping centers here aren't much different...still low access!

:angryfire::angryfire::angryfire::angryfire:. I wouldn't be so pissed if the Villages of Waxpoll had included the speed limit is 25 and 20 during school hours.

There must be something in the water over here in SW. Highview Trail is also dangerous thanks to speeders aka inconsiderate neighbors. The police could rake in money setting up radar here anytime, anyday. Same cars everyday, black ford escape, white sequoia, green mdx, canary yellow mustang, and blue windstar to name a few.

The issue here and with other communites, is long ago, builders stopped building grid type neighborhoods, which are generally more safe than ones which have a lot of cul-de-sac's and long roads winding through a neighborhood. That is why in the future it's been stated that we'll be going back to not so many cul-de-sacs and long roads. I've noticed that people tend to speed when they see "open space". For example, on Route 7, generally people do what they can as far as normal speeds around Counrtyside. Going West or Eastbound from there, when the lanes open up heading to the over passes, where the land is farther from the road, people speed up. Sometimes up to 70mph! You see the same thing happen moving from urban/suburban areas to the countryside. Thus we have people who speed up as the come past the Nature Center where we have some "open space" across from us. Coming the other way, they tend to pick up where the road begins to curve as you head past Ingleside. Then add to that the CRAZY 45 minutes where parents pull up to walk or drop their kids at Mill Run - rather than get in the drop offf line. Cars are parking on the street, while others backup or try to make a 360 degree turn while another car is coming down the street and another car has pulled into a driveway to back out...and a mom and her two kids that cut through Maplewood try to run across the street at the same time. Then you also, at the same time, have people who pull up in front of my mailbox and move slowly forward while they WATCH their kid as far as they can, but not the road in front of them. It is unbelievable! When Mill Run decided to no longer bus the majority of their kids, they made a big mistake. One of these days something will happen and a car will most likely end up crashing onto my lawn and into the house. Same thing in the winter...one of these days a kid will be hit. It almost happened last year when a caravan didn't see the child crossing the road and stopped at the last minute. I'd love to see those wide speed bumps every few hundred feet.

Last Friday in the early evening I watched as many people sped past our house - the worst offender coming in and leaving was a purple Dodge Prowler. It must have been doing 50-55 when it went by!

We recently moved from Broadlands to the Village of Waxpool community, very close to that corner stop sign. Please don't target VOW residents. There is alot of traffic coming thru there due to people using it as a short cut to get from Broadlands to Belmont Ridge. Residents here also worry about cars speeding down Cochrans Loch, many of whom are Broadlands high school students going to and from Briar Woods.

Good point. To get to Belmont Ridge from Broadlands the only other convenient option is Truro Parish, right?

Are there plans to close this 'cut through' once Croson Rd is open? Thought there was something in the HOA newsletter about this? Maybe this would help the folks on Ridgeway?

I hope not, it's a great cut through for me to visit my friends that live in VOW.

True, but we use roads like Ashburn Farm Parkway, Claiborne Parkway, Hay Rd, etc. (4 lane divided highways) to "cut-through."....not residential streets.

Well I don't see how you can call it a cut-through. The road was already planned way before the houses were built. we moved into our house in 2003 and the road was not open but we knew it would be. So people use it both ways...just as it will be when Wynridge is open to Croson and LCP.
