I have a 7 year old and am trying to teach him Math using a abacus .I have looked in to several websites and have finally found one which has material for first and second grade .I am looking for other moms and kids who would be interested in this so that we can work together as a group and meet once a week and discuss our childs progress and share ideas to help our kids get better in math.

If anybody is interested please feel free to email me this is a very good program and I ordered the material today. This program is being used in many countries and is very popular.I did a lot of research on ABACUS(chinese) and feel that it is a great tool to teach math and for the right brain development. nipun_padma@yahoo.com

actually Kris I ordered the material from malaysia and it is a kit which cosists of 2 books about 110 pages and one abacus.I will be starting my son on this soon and I have a few friends who are intersted in this we are going to meet and see how things work with our kids
I sent my son to Kumon when he was 4 and stopped after 3 mos as we got frustrated when the HW piles up.Currently I am using Hooked on Math from costco but he does that for my sake I am hoping this abacus concept will work as it is so popular in many other countries. You can e mail me if you have any specific questions.
Also I saw that many people have seen the posting but only you have replied so I will be Posting the progress as we go further with this.

I gave the link to my friends it is www.mathabacus.com and they said they will order after they saw my books.I ordered the package number 11.I started my 7 year old on this he was very interested in it in the begining and is doing the activity book every day.It is a interesting concept and is good.Hope he continues with it. We finished the easy levels fast now it is getting a little bit tougher.we are in the 2 digit addition now. He does 4 digit additions but doing it the abacus way is going to take some time but it is fasterthan the regular one.

The books are ok they are not very clear but for an adult it is ok to understand. My son gets confused with the language sometimes .It is english and he reads at 3rd grade level still the words are phrased differently.
