I got my latest Comcast bill yesterday.

Imagine my surprise when it was nearly $60 more than last month.

I called billing, and the woman who answered said it was all explained in the detail on the back. She said my bundled service was internet and digital plus channels. The basic cable service wasn't bundled -- and cost more than $57.

I questioned that since it was nearly $60 more than last month, so she put me on hold.

Five minutes later, she came back on the line, and she told me I was being charged twice for my digital cable service. Gee, what a surprise.

The kicker -- she can't give me a credit for the billing error. She has to email the local office and have them research it. It will take 3 to 5 days to get an answer. I asked if it would be faster if I went into the local office and asked myself. Then, she said no, because she wasn't sending the eamil to the local office. She was sending it to the regional office. I'm not certain this is going to be resolved in my lifetime.

Moral of the story: check your bills very, very carefully this month.

I got my Comcast bill yesterday, too. I had signed up for the 19.99 cable internet for 6 months (prepaid monthly). I paid 7/24-8/24 for 19.99 last month. Got my bill yesterday-they had billed me $60+ dollars for Aug/ Sep-20 something for 1/2 of the July/ Aug bill then $40 something for Aug/ Sep (my 6 months are up). I had to argue that I had already prepaid my $19.99 for July/Aug, so he took off the 20 they billed for the 1/2 month at full price, but it looks like I'm stuck with the 40 something per month for cable internet for now.

I'm planning on shopping around for a better deal-any suggestions?

    It just gets better.

I called about the billing problem on Sunday, 8/19. I was told that it would take 3 to 5 days to resolve.

So, after 3 days on Wednesday evening (8/22), I called back. I spent 20 minutes yet again trying to convince the person who answered that the bill was wrong. She insisted it was right. Finally, I asked for a supervisor (again). He acknowledged it was wrong, and he made yet another request to the regional office.

While I was at work on Thursday, 8/23, someone from Comcast left a message. He told me it will take another 7 to 10 days to figure out what's wrong.

So, in total, it will take 10 to 14 days to figure out the error.

If it were a $5 error, I would just pay it and move on. But it's $57 plus whatever taxes apply.

I'm not changing my service until this is straightened out, and I get at least one correct bill after that.

Geez louise, doesn't anybody test their billing and adjustment programs? It shouldn't be possible to charge someone twice for the same service in the same month on the same account. It also shouldn't be possible to charge $3 per month for modem rental when your records indicate that the customer owns the modem either. But that happened too.

I hate to say a bad thing about FIOS since we were pretty happy with it in our old house. In fact we had no problems until we moved here and got our last bill from Verizon. Almost a thousand dollars for equipment we returned.

The verizon customer service people have initiated a investigation but said it would take 4 to 6 weeks to complete because this is a problem that happens all the time and they are backlogged with investigations.

I just got off the phone with Comcast. I also had the $19.99 promo rate and was just bumped to their +$50 rate. I stated that I was a ~$20 Adelphia Internet only customer that was switched to Comcast. I said that I got this month’s bill and "discovered" that this was a promotional rate. I asked if they had a cheaper plan. She came back with a 6 month ~$34 plan. I said that, for our usage, this was still expensive. I asked if there was a cheaper plan, and that I did not care as much about Speed. She put me on hold again and came back with a $19.99 plan for 12 months (from her supervisor). I believe this is at the same speed, she did not state otherwise and I did not ask.

I was very polite the whole time and did not have to threaten FIOS. It is just incredible how negotiating Internet service can be almost as bad as negotiating for a car.

I still can't get this straightened out.

On August 23, I got a call from the local billing office telling me it would take 7 - 10 days to resolve my billing problems.

    It's September 11, and I've heard nothing. And it's been 19 days.

So, like an idiot, I called back tonight.

And for the sixth time, the person on the phone has tried to convince me that the extra charges are appropriate.

And for the sixth time, I'm on hold waiting for a supervisor who won't be able to do anything for me but call the local / regional billing office. And tomorrow I'll get a message saying that it will take more time, but they won't leave a name or a contact number.

I'm getting dizzy from the run-around.

So, all I can say is:

STAY AWAY FROM COMCAST. VERY, VERY FAR AWAY.

Well, I guess persistence pays off. After 45 minutes on hold waiting for a supervisor, the representative got back on the line. She told me that she'd found the problem, and she was issuing a $60 credit. I don't know if she really found the problem, or she just wanted me to go away, but I may finally have resolution. I'll believe it when I see the credit on my bill. And I make sure that the same problem won't continue to appear on future bills.

Hey, 86Mets -- love your handle. I'm a Mets fan myself (since 1969).

I found out I was being billed for a cable modem lease fee even though I bought by modem at BB over 5 years ago! I had to go over to their office at Red Rum and raise hell to get my credits... good times.

Happened to me too. Their records even showed that I owned my modem. But they charged me $3 per month anyway. Ethical, not much.

My recent bill showed the credit they promised me. It was for a flat $60, so I'm pretty sure they credited me just to get me to stop calling.

Now, I need to see if I can get a better pricing plan. It's gone up about $15 per month since Comcast took over. It's worth asking anyway.

Our bill continues to go up each month, up $20 or so since Comcast acquired Adelphia.

$51.95 - Comcast Classic (Broadcast Basic and Expanded Basic)
    $11.95 (x2) - DVR equipment
    -----------------
    $75.85 Total

This does not include the bundled services or internet. The cost per month with the bundled services & internet is to the point that we are considering returning to Direct TV and switching Comcast to internet only. Even then, the cost is probably still a wash, if the internet cost jumps up from current bundled price of $29/mo.

    frustrating!

Comcast internet is $43 per month for their cheapest plan (I was paying $19.99 with Adelphia). I think I'm switching to the Fios offer for $99 for cable/ phone/ internet when it becomes available...
