    T8erman,
It's funny, I grew up in MD and watched the local Hospital close along with 2 Elemtary schools, 1 Jr. high because the kids in the neighborhood grew up. The Jr. was torned down and townhouses put in it's place, 1 Elem. school became office space and the other a MD Park and Planning office. The Hospital I can't remember if it became an assisted living or a retirement home. The building in the area had come to a crawl or stoppped and I would hate to see the same happen here when the building of new homes stops.

    Enjoy!

    Sunny,
Sometimes I do work for free, other times it's pizza and beer! I have coached my son's teams for years and this is the first time in 6/7 years where I am not coaching officially. As for Broadlands Live, sorry, can't help. Now, if you start to restore the stone house that might get my attention.

    Enjoy!

Yes, new construction is moving at a snails pace BUT when things pick back up (and they will by dam!) Loudoun County will most likely be at the forefront again.

IF BRMC is approved to build, it will be no sooner than 3 years before it is open for business. If denied. can Loudoun wait several years longer for the whole process to start over to get a much needed 2nd hospital?

It will take a few years. The design/planning for the new addition at the old Loudoun hospital was 1st finished at the end of 2005. It's scheduled to be finished and occupied by fall of this year. And this is just a typical office building. Not an actual hospital.

Actually most of the new approved single family construction will take place way south of here.

Most of the Land west of the broadlands is low density and east and north is being built out fast almost gone. The next generation of high density residential such as moorefield is a zillion years off and further all depending on the metro which is also a zillion years off. I doubt we will see the metro out here the way things are going for 15 years or more!!!! Everything else going up around here seems to be flex;)

And at what point will the population density support a full blown hospital? 5, 10, 15 years???

If Loudoun waits until the population density in the south is sufficient to build the next one there, we will not see another hospital for 10-20 years.

We need one soonest REGARDLESS if Broadlands is the "perfect" location.

T8 as you have seen I have have decided to mostly stay out of the hospital debate in order to keep from being divorced :devil2: So my comments are just in general these days. :) But the hospital site would make a great healthy dirt pile for us all to play in and stay healthier:)

Has anyone heard about a press conference on Monday with Inova, Concerned Citizens and this nurses union from Northern California?

Speaking of Flex, the buildings on Waxpool and Ashburn Blvd, (I think) look pretty good. I think they are nice. Just an opinion.

Agreed! They look a lot nicer than that eyesore of a neighborhood that's across Waxpool. (Just kidding, Lee!)

I can say for the first time that we had an "interesting" experience with Loudoun's Pediatric ER on Tuesday night. My son was sent there from our pediatrician's office because of massive swelling in his knee and a slight fever he was running. Our ped. thought he might need the fluid in his knee drained because of an infection he may have picked up when he fell off his bike onto that knee a week ago. The ER dr. ran bloodwork, did a throat swab for strep, and after almost 5 hours came to tell us that his throat swab test came back negative for strep, but positive in the bloodwork. She said that basically the strep infection settled into his knee...it had nothing to do with his fall. Okay, I'm fine with that because last time he developed strep it was in his blood, not his throat (and he was in the hospital for 5 days because of it).

What I'm not fine with was our discharge instructions. The instructions state the diagnosis was juvenile rheumatoid arthritis and pharyngitis. What??? He was treated for a strep infection at the hospital....not JRA. Our ped. even said that they probably rushed through the discharge instructions and because our son's diagnosis was not in the "drop-down list" of diagnoses they had to choose something. Our son didn't even have a sore throat so why the pharyngitis diagnosis? It makes no sense.

I actually wish I had gone to Reston for this instead.

Thunderchild, let's say YOU open a business...where YOU have to put up the capital, take a risk and operate your business.

If it were your business, would YOU open it where you wouldn't get the traffic necessary to make a profit, pay your employees and be successful?

The reasoning here is a tad simplistic. Why do you assume that caring for the bottom line and caring for people are mutually exclusive? In our business, taking phenomenal care of our clients directly relates to a healthy bottom line. Have a great weekend!

Perhaps dirt does make us healthier then being in a hospital!!!

    http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/19292601/

As far as those flex buildings, Chsalas & GeauxTigers they are not too bad. But if I can convince the developer on the property next door of a beautiful design of office that looks like a residential project of mini mansions or a residential resort style office complex you will see how you should really design a commercial project that really transitions from residential to commercial. These offices could or will have all kinds of fun things built in so it would be a fun and relaxing and exciting but still lets the worker be very productive. Kind of like when your child loves and wants to go to school only the kid-adult version. :):):) If my idea does not get built there I will find a place to build it myself. :):):):):)

Because no hospital could survive there. First, you need 60 or so acres with water and sewer already available, which doesn't exist. If there was, then you would need the population to support it, which there isn't.
Remeber, 2/3 of the population of the county lives in the eastern 1/3 of the land. The east is where the density is.

I don't like the lies and distortions of the truth they try to use. Such as their latest claim that has officially been debunked...that competition will raise prices!
They are trying to protect their near monopoly on healthcare...something that is clearly to the detriment of the citizens they serve.
If a McDonalds tried to keep out a Burger King, so what.
But when its the health of people that is potentially being jeopardized, then I don't like it.
If they want to launch a PR campaign extolling the virtues of Inova and Loudoun hospital, then that's fine. But fighting to keep additional care out of the county? That's not fine.

OK I am bothered by now several people have taken their precious children to INOVA and have very loudly complained here. I find that odd but I and not saying it is not true. It just seems like a campaign against INOVA.

Reston Hospital is almost a non stop drive from the broadlands so if you have problems with INOVA it seems logical to go there. Especially now we have now second very loudly complaint about INOVA. Very very odd especially since these are known people that hate INOVA and love HCA. And if you have a complaint against the hospital take to what ever agency that supposed to investigate it. When I broke my ribs last year I had them I have nothing but superb care are INOVA's emergency room. Can't say that about the urgent care I went to first that was not equipped to handle my situation. And it was my lack of understanding the capabilities of just what a urgent care can handle.

But when I lived near the reston HCA and my kid injured his eye the care was superb there too. And when my other kid had a kidney stone and we took him to INOVA out here the care was also superb. Maybe because I trust both hospitals and don't have some vendetta against either one. I don't know but I can tell you if I had the kind of problems reported here I would be calling my Lawyer brother in a second and every lawyer friend and relative I know.

Just odd now we have had at least two people complain about INOVA when they are known to dislike INOVA and the reston hospital is just a few more minutes away. Very very odd. Not saying it is not true what happened. Like I would not go back to that urgent care and would of not gone there in the first place if I had issues with them.

My only issue in the hospital wars is the land issue and where it is being built where it will give double hospital coverage to the fewer rather then a spot where many that are not close to hospital would then have coverage.

I have never had an issue with the care at either hospital.

So I am the only one here wanting the hospital moved that has no personal issues with either when it comes to care. And I am probably the most objective in my reasoning. When I hear competition what a farce, most of you are covered by insurance so the hospital is going to charge what they are going to charge.

Just seems weird that we now have several that dislike INOVA then go there only later to complain on these boards when they could go to the hospital system they love which is almost as close. Very very odd.

Bottom line the care is superb at both in my opinion, and that is from first hand experience at both. This is my final rant on this whole hospital and the whole issue just stinks on both sides. The pile of dirt on that site for everyone to play in seems to be the healthiest choice. And I apoligize in advanced if I offended anyone that was not my intention, I am just trying to make some logical sense out of some of this. I have not posted on this topic much lately and don't worry I don't plan to post much or if at all ever again. Finally I am sure we can find people that feel the care was good and bad at both hospitals. Personally I would like to see a thread that talks about the wonderful experiences and care they got both at HCA and INOVA. I will also be curious how many doctors and nurses and medical professions that have worked at both hospital systems. Competition between hospitals is almost like saying we should have two police departments and two fire departments and two BOS because they all deal with problems and emergencies and a little competition would be good.

You are never going to get some one to love one hospital or the other when they have what ever issues with either one.

Further I will leave you with this what do you do if a doctor you love goes over and works for the competition???????????? Happens everyday!!!!!:)

I will add I can see the litigation on both sides delaying this hospital for a zillion more years far beyond our current term of the BOS.

Come on if HCA wins then INOVA files a suit which most probably delay or stop construction and if the board denies the hospital which is unlikely, but if they do HCA files a lawsuit. So the way I see it this hospital may never be built until hell freezes over.

So would it not be logical to find a site that all would be happy with. If it was moved away from homes I believe HCA would be in a better position to get it built perhaps on land down by Brambleton so INOVA would be happier.

I can see litigation on both sides delaying or stopping this hospital for longer then most of you will ever live here. So everybody loses then. I doubt this hospital if approved will break ground as soon as they think when INOVA might be able to get a court to delay that the start until the litigation is over which could be years longer. This is becoming the war of the wills between these hospitals and it is not pretty on both sides. And we the public lose out on getting more medical care in this county. It is a shame because when a project is in sync it is always a win win. And I don't see any win win here anytime soon especially for the public that does not have strong feelings for either side.

So a few people have complained about specific instances with Inova and you AUTOMATICALLY equate love and hate for the competing hospitals.

Sad Lee, very sad to make that assumption.

You were doing so well before this last post. Guess you can stay off the wagon for only so long.

T8 You are correct Dalyn is putting me into Hospital war rehab immediately. I just don't think this is the proper venue to voice hostilities about medical care at either hospital. They have been both good to me and my family. Problems can and have occurred at both and when they do they should be addressed to the proper agency and investigated, just like some of the child care problems we have seen of late and then a report and proper action can be taken. Again I am NOT saying what happened did not happen. It just should be reported and investigated. Now off to hospital war rehab!!!!!! And I apoligize to anyone I may have offended!!!!!!

exactly. hundreds of ppl have visited the hospital in the past few weeks and 3 complaints in a limited fishbowl of a neighborhood forum- where the hospital thread is the biggest, longest, thread ever- do NOT equate to anything more than 3 families that had and talked about less than stellar experience.

out of all of the emergency rooms visits i've had in my life, i can only recall a single satisfactory one, and it was stellar care at a small hospital in an Atlanta suburb- but i can tell stories aaall day about the bad ones. IT'S AN EMERGENCY. nothing feels good about that kind of situation. and RARELY do ppl leave an emergency room remembering the care unless it's extraordinarily good or bad. i can t imagine HCA will be any better or worse than INOVA in an emergency room situation.

there's enough going on here without additional, foundless spin, don't we think....?
