If it turns out that charges against her are NOT warranted, my heart breaks for her too. Whether or not she is deemed not at fault for the accident, there is another family whose life is forever affected by this tragedy. Yes she is still alive, but having someone's death on your hands is so so tough to live with ESPECIALLY if you are found not to be at fault... I hope when that name comes out there is public compassion for her too, and a lesson learned by all whether she is found at fault or not.

Everyone who has EVER driven has taken their eyes off the road, looked down at directions, lost concentration, been distracted, mind wandered- and ALL DRIVERS are at risk for the unexpected to happen and suddenly you've killed someone. I won't be quick to judge the driver, that's for sure.

CASE IN POINT: yesterday I was driving up Vestals Gap at about 20 mph. From between 2 parked cars about 1 driveway and a short lawn ahead of me a young girl, no older than 8 I'm guessing- came FLYING down her driveway on her bike (no helmet, balloons tied to the back) DIRECTLY in front of my car. Had I been going the speed limit or not paying attention I could have easily hit her or SHE could have driven smack into the side of my car! I continued behind her as she wove back and forth across the street NEVER once looking behind her to see that a car was coming! she finally u turned in the middle of the street about 2 driveways up and looked like she was going to crap her pants when she saw a car behind her. I stared at her shaking my head and put my hand up like " yeah- you pulled out in FRONT of a car with out looking." This whole incident took less than 8 seconds.
    :(

I hope everyone remembers that no matter HOW many times we tell our kids safety rules- THEY DON'T ALWAYS LISTEN. Drive like it could be YOUR kid flying out from between two cars.

This would explain why cars coming from SW heading North, fly through the light at Waxpool and fail to slow down.

Sarah, our HOA GM, just heard back from the VDOT representative after contacting him this week and he stated that he had all the paperwork in place and to give him a couple of weeks to complete the signage work.

Both drivers AND runners, walkers, bikers, etc. need to pay attention to the rules of the road. Even if your are going the speed limit or below and paying attention, accidents can happen. I have seen, countless times, bikers blowing the red light at the corner of Claiborne and Waxpool. And, just today, I saw a man casually crossing at the intersection of Claiborne and Broadlands Blvd. when I had the green light and he had the pedestrian crosswalk stop light. I know I wouldn't take my chances crossing a street/intersection when a car is approaching, no matter what is the speed limit.
