OK ... I'm running through a server using InJoy firewall and seeing:

    2005-03-16 18:20:49 EST: 1039 / 413
Your download speed : 1064818 bps, or 1039 kbps.
    A 129.9 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 423632 bps, or 413 kbps.

I'm on an Motorola SB4100. I suspect that the firewall is slowing down the speeds, but I'm adverse to taking it down for tests. I've got three Windows machines behind that OS/2 firewall, and I'd rather not see blood .. [:p]

    Premier without QOS:

Your download speed : 3448260 bps, or 3367 kbps.
    A 420.9 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 809607 bps, or 790 kbps.

...but I routinely get around 530k/s download from usenet from servers located in Equinix/Ashburn

My speed is really rocking now. Getting upwards of 830k/s sustained downloads from some websites.. and speed reports of 860kbs uploads.

    Steve ...

how is your network setup ?? Just wondering as I'm using a software firewall on an old 333mhz Pentium II, and I don't get those speeds.

my download speeds are all over the place. Im ranging from 3900 to 5400. My uploads are pretty consistent around 870. Anyone else seeing inconsistent download speeds?

Download speeds may vary.. but vary based on location.. not timing (yet..). I think we are just getting to the limits of what the 'inbetween' and 'far end' can sustain. I'm getting consistant speeds to the same places... but different speeds to the different places. I'm not seeing the usual 'peak vs non-peak' differences yet.

Most speed report pages are showing me 5xxx-6xxxx downloads and very consistant upload speeds in the 8xx kbs range. To giganews, it reported 69xx download.

For Nielz.. I'm very simple. Just cable modem to DLink nat router/switch to a AMD based winxp PC using the integrated intel NIC.

a linux based router should be able to handle these speeds without issue. I ran our entire company behind a 4 NIC linux router/fw for years on a PII 266.

Check the simple stuff first.. look at the ifconfig stats on your NICs and make sure you don't have lots of CRC, runts or collisions. Could just be poor negotiation.

I've seen varried speeds to the same locations. And I've also noticed a slight drop durring peak (6pm-11pm). Also, today the connection seems VERY unstable. Since late last night (early morning) I see the connection drop for a few seconds then it's back. I haven't had much time to look into it but I'll report back if I find anything.

Well... seems Adelphia is down for the count right now for me. I was starting to think the drops I was having all day was on my end but I was able to run long 2 second pings and see drops every so often then it would pick up. Right now my modem won't sync either. Seems there is something amiss.

Well, Adelphia is completely down for me today. I've had intermittent outages over then last week, but none of them lasted more than 5 or 10 minutes. This outage far exceeds that in length. I just called Adelphia, and voice system said that they were experiencing an outage. They didn't give an ETA, though. :(

The problems (I think) started Thursday. It's now working for me but download speeds are half what they used to be. It seems Adephia finally started to look at this as a real problem late last night when the connection when down hard. They've been working on it since.

Yeah .. I noticed around 1AM, Saturday morning, I was on fine, then I went to download something and got the 'server not found' indication. Looked at the modem, and it was trying to sync.

Obviously, it's up and running now at the time I posted this.

Speeds are horrible. I was lucky to get 1.3 mb download speeds last night. Does anyone happen to know what is going on w/Adelphia? I have linux distros that need downloading....:)

hehe... I'll have to download FC4 at work. I might just bite the bullet and call Adelphia tonight. This is getting to be too much. It's been slow for 5 days now. I just downloaded Firefox 1.0.2 at a whopping 700k. That's faster than dial up or IDSL but far from the 6000k of Premeir. I wouldn't mind so much if it was a clean 700k (no packet loss and very low latency) but I'm seeing high latency at times.
