yea I agree on CASA. We pulled our 1st grader out of there after the first of the year. I liked the staff, it was just too much to handle and at that age, the kids really benefit from a more interactive program. It was our first try and I will not be using CASA again.... just not what I am looking for, but it is very affordable.

While I am not "religious", we have found Open Arms to be a great place for after school care. They take the bus and have great fun and get supervised help with homework.

How about Horseback Riding Lesson? I have a barn Middleburg and offer riding lessons! I'm located right of Route 50! I'm also a local Broadlands resident! Please contact me for more details!

Also, riding lessons are for adults as well!

My girls have been in a CASA or YAS program for about 6 years. Many school years they were not in classes with their friends, so CASA gave them a chance to see friends they wouldn't see all day, or maybe only at lunch. Also, they spend the school day being good little students, so CASA gives them some time after school to get out on the playground and be kids. For working parents this is a win-win situation because you don't have to worry about where your kids are, you know there is adult supervision, and your kids are getting a chance to be kids and play. I've been fortunate to have wonderful CASA supervisors @ Belmont Station and Belmont Ridge. CASA has homework time, snack, and play time (BeST also utilizes the teacher's lounge for quiet homework time if needed). YAS has areas for the kids to work on homework and they can use both gyms and they get a snack. My kids aren't there everyday because they have other activities after school during the week, so from an economical stand point and schedule stand point this works for me. I say all this because we have had very good experiences and its important to see both sides. If people have had issues with the way their particular CASA program is being run they should fill out the survey or call the main office. The main office wants all the programs to be running well and if parents don't call with issues how are they to know? Here's another plus -- if you sign your children up for one of the PTA sponsored after school programs or perhaps have on-site tutoring, they go from the program to CASA without you having to transport or worry. BeST offers golf lessons, and Girls in the Run, etc., programs that are generally over at 4 p.m, and being in CASA lets them participate and then go to CASA until one of us can pick them up. If we utilized CASA for every available hour, it would come out to less than 5 bucks an hour. I'm sorry to hear that some people have had less than positive experiences with CASA. We have another 2 years for CASA and then 2 or 3 years of YAS, as well as the summer camp programs and plan on registering each year.
