Took a personal tour of the whole inside today including all the nooks and crannies and all I can say is
    WOW! WOW! WOW!:D

They hope to open around the middle of june if they can get the outside landscaping and walks in. The super said his men are under extreme stress but they can get the inside done, they have nothing to do with the outside so that might be the only holdup.

Again all I can say about the interior especially the lobby
    wow! wow! wow! and wow!

The lobby will take you back to the grand theaters of old and better then many of them with all the new technology. WOW WOW!

Very nice picture but not exactly what I saw unless they had that theater hidden somewhere:)

Having watched a ton of construction in this area over the last six years or so it's always interesting how much gets done in the last month before a place opens. However, I don't recall anything with as much still to be done as the movie theater with just four weeks left or so. The back of the theater where the parking garages are looks like it's mostly done, especially at night when all the lights are on, except for the garage entrance right behind the strip mall part. The front is a far different story with so much to do still. Hard to believe they can finish it all as progress appears very slow.

    Lee,

How do you get these "inside" tours? The place sounds FAB to me, wonder what all that will mean when the price point comes out...

Since I am a designer and used to be builder and soon to be a licensed real estate agent (mostly commercial real estate) Anyway at any and all construction sites those workers and superintendents and owners are my people. Not always literally, but figuratively many times. I speak their language so to speak and I have several high profile projects in the DC area so many people in my business know my work even if they don't personally know me. :)

Basically I just walk in like I belong there and get into conversations and next thing you know I get the red carpet treatment. :D That is about it. Construction sites can be extremely dangerous so I don't recommend this to non professionals. :D How does that commercial go I am a professional and don't do this on your own!!! :D

    Right,

I myself worked for developers in the 80's and early 90's. Residential and commercial...none of them survived in business, though. I was in-house rather than onsite, doing payroll, benefits and accounting.

I have a feeling this theater is going to be a major regional draw so I would assume the market rate that any high end theater charges.

It's too bad. I very rarely go to the movies anymore since we have our own home theater and just wait until it comes out in DVD. I hate spending $10.00 per person and come out wondering why I went.....there are very few movies out now that I feel I have to watch in the theater......

    Lee and others--

Yes--Lee is correct! We recently attended my cousin's twin daughters 4 year old birthday party (two weekends ago) at Consolidated Theatre's Commonwealth 20 theatre in Midlothian, VA.

Boy--was it a great and expansive place for movies and b'day parties! The theatre was great and had great concession stands. Gourmet pizza from UNOS and other vendors was what we saw offered. Personnel very good and helpful.

The MOMS Club is well worth it according to my cousin and her husband. The under 4 crowd and babies enjoy "downtime" with others. The Summer Kids Club for kiddie movies is also offered at Consolidated Theatres. We have also been to the Alexandria, VA location at Kingstowne Theatre also with friends.

My cousin and her husband frequent early price savings on tickets. The adult prices before 5 pm are around $8 and kids are $6-7 price ranges. After 5 pm--adults close to $10 and kids $6-7 price ranges according to my cousin. Also, she said to take advantage of movie club discounts, etc. Great savings!!

Looking forward to Consolidated Theatre's Fox Brambleton location. Web site is below--

    Tyger31, I second that.

I look at any of the current crop of movies, and nothing wills me to go out and see them. We either do Movies on Demand via Openband or rent from blockbuster. The only time we frequent a movie theatre is when the movie itself demands the big screen, ie, LOTR, Star Wars, Harry Potter, etc. MIght go to see transformers...beisdes, so many movies are out of the theatres in 2 months anyway!

I also agree movie tickets are very expensive and the food is even more outrageous in price. Think what it cost a teen on date a date. I can almost understand teens shopping lifting when I see what is costs out there. I did say almost I do not recommend teens shoplifting under ANY circumstances. SO no comments please unless you really have too:D. We also have a full blown movie theater in our home with the plush seats and all. ALthough it needs the finishing touches like the automatic curtains and the twinkling star ceiling. But we do have a very large screen and great sound and picture.

So it is hard to go out to a movie and pay mafia prices unless the movie is something I really want to see in the theaters. Then I alsways sneak off on an early weekday afternoon and still surprised how many people are there. Does anybody work in this town ha ha:D

I will say I will frequent this theater more often then I would normally would just because of the total experience this theater can provide. Of course if it gets crowded in the middle of a weekday afternoon then you will not see me there very often.:D

Seriously I am really looking forward to this theater and I absolutely love movies and someday I will be making them myself. THat is still a passion I will pursue even if it is just for the fun of it.:D No matter what happened to me trying to pursue that dream when I lived in southern california for many years yes it was a complete failure but I never had so much fun failing:D. Dalyn still thinks I most of lost many brain cells before I started pursuing that dream many years ago and she still thinks I am losing many more every time I bring that subject up.
So there you go another little secret revealed by Lee ha ha ha ha :)

We're Netflix addicts. We love them. You get emails on when movies will arrive, and that makes planning TV, tivo, etc. very convenient.

I hope Transformers will play on the Uptown in DC. We saw the Star Wars re-release of the original trilogies there as well as the prequels. Very nice. I'm one very excited Trans-fan. Maybe I need an Autobot logo for my Saab?

We tried Netflix twice, but QC isn't that great. We seemed to keep getting DVD's with digital skips or drags. Then Kaosdad would whip out toothpaste to clean them, sometimes it helped others it didn't. He got so frustrated we canceled the service, but Now I have TIVO and it is great!

I don't know if you've seen this yet, but check it out, it is way cool!

Our experience has been good, but we did get a bum DVD once, too. I wonder what the mailman does with the Netflix disks? =-)

I had not seen the site. I love it. Thanks!

FWIW ... when we were there, we had some of the same problems, turned out the DVD player went 'belly up'. Still, alot was due to the disks. When they opened their warehouse in Gathersburg, the turnaround time definitely shortened. Here in Pittsburgh, there's a local warehouse, I can drop a DVD in the mail on Monday, and have a replacement on Wednesday.

FWIW ... TIVO or any DVR is great, as long as they broadcast the movie on TV, hopefully in HD. Otherwise, I can usually get the DVD within days or weeks of its release to DVD.

Then there are movies you HAVE to see on a big screen. LOTR and Star Wars as mentioned. I would have to include any SF or action movie with large car chases or special effects. ;)

Although movies have gotten very expensive and other options (Netflix, Movies on Demand, Premium Movie Channels, etc.) are all very good there is still something about going to the movies. I have to say we only go to 1 or 2 movies a year just because we don't like Regal too much and Worldgate is not really an experience to remember, but I expect we'll go much more often, especially the afternoon showings, to see movies now that it is just a mile away. The whole Town Center (what is there now and what is coming) will be a great place to make it a complete evening with food, movie and ice cream/smoothie/coffee once it's all complete.

Netflix was the best, but now blockbuster is far superior. Now you can at blockbuster take the movie in the sealed mailing jacket to the store and exchange it for any movie in the store including new releases. They mail it back for you. Yes it even gets better because once they (blockbuster store) checks in the mailing jacket movie on their computer. Blockbuster considers that already received and they mail you a new one immediately usually in the next day. You also get coupons how many depending on you level of how many movies you sign up for at one time. So if you sign up for 3 at a time you cam actually have 7 movies at a time three in mailed jackets to you and 3 you traded in the mailers for and the coupon movies, and all can be new releases. Of the best is to have friends that work for the studios and they send you their new releases on DVD's for free. All you have to do then is to move to southern california and try to make movies meet many "in the business" as the call it and when you fail at it they feel sorry for you and they give you movies at times that are in playing in the theaters. That is another way to get very very new movies, even better then your kids downloading an aweful copy from the internet. ha ha ha Lee j
