    MAJOR announcement today!!!
If you have children, read this....
BRMC has announced a partnership with Children's National Medical Center, one of the best pediatric hospitals in the world.
They will build a state-of-the-art pediatric emergency unit as part of BRMC, and will share their services and doctors at this location.
I'm sure many of you have utilized Children's in the past and know what this means not only for BRMC, but for the advancement of healthcare in Loudoun County.:happygrin::bow::rockon::boogie:

I am so excited to hear this news! This is an example of what can be done when competition enters the market. How long have we been harping on that one!

    Let's compare press announcements.
    • Today: Broadlands Regional Medical Center (HCA) partners with Children's hospital to bring child health services directly into Loudoun County. Nationally, if not globally, reknowned Children's Hospital to work out of BRMC. What great vision by both organizations.
    • Last week: INOVA writes a $20,000 check to continue their funding efforts to keep healthcare competition out of Loudoun County. The INOVA business minds that be are forced to go public with their on-going efforts to pay legal fees for an opposition group.
No doubt, I like today's positive announcement. If this doesn't throw BRMC over the top, there's a lot of fishy backroom stuff going on that none of us can imagine.

Too bad all those kids will be hurt when the helicopter crashes into their unit. (sorry, I was channeling Lee).

You will have to do better then that Baywatch. :devil2:

There was a collision over the weekend of two medivac's that crashed into each other trying to land at the same time at the same hospital. Most were killed including the patient. Very very sad and careless.

The partnership with Children's National Medical Center is huge. All families here benefit from that partnership. Excellent news, no matter which side of the debate you fall on.

Lee, do you know like ahead of time, that you are going to lose the lottery, and STILL schlep yourself over to 7-11 to buy the losing ticket?

I know there was Lee and I must admire your self restraint in not posting how that must what everyone who supports the hospital wants.

This is wonderful. We have made way too many trips to CNMC during the AM rush and have fought to find parking there. My fingers are crossed that some of our doctors will provide services out here. :happybounce:

I also spent a long year commuting to CNMC for my daughter's cancer treatment. This partnership has made my mind up. I now support BRMC. Our children deserve the level of treatment we recieved at Children's.

Softballchick, if I am not mistaken, you have been pretty much opposed to BRMC being built here (for some legitimate reasons). Has your position been evolving with this partnership pushing you over the edge, or did this partnership cause a dramatic change in your thinking? Just curious how big an impact this news will have on the debate.

It seems that partnering with Children's is a monumental point of differentiation, such that the argument that "it's just another hospital" will be destroyed.

I think there are legitimate reasons to oppose BRMC being built here. But it will be interesting to see INOVA's reaction to this. I would hope INOVA would welcome and applaud this partnership, because it is clearly good for local families to have Children's expertise here. But I won't hold my breath.

This is a true point of differentiation and is exactly what we've been talking about with regards to the benefits of competition (yes, even in healthcare). Now I think the onus is on INOVA to develop their own partnership--perhaps BRMC will be mecca for pediatrics while INOVA will attract a world-renowned partner in another specialty (i.e. oncology, geriatric care or women's health).

Here's another thought for consideration: what if, instead of dumping hundreds of thousands of dollars and wasted energy into fighting BRMC, INOVA put these same resources into improving their own hospital and services?

And what if, contrary to Lee and the doom-and-gloom crowd, this partnership with Children's (and the improvements it will force INOVA to make) actually INCREASES home values and attracts families to this area because of the level of child healthcare services we can provide?

Slightly aside: for anyone who thinks "all hospitals provide basically the same care / level of care" -- think again. Not all hospitals are the same. Some do offer better care than others -- and the press is a major reason why hospitals want to provide good care. Remember, nobody notices what you're doing well until you're not.

    A minute from my vacation

Don't worry folks I don't plan to make a habit of interrupting my vacation from these forums this summer unless we have a lopsided conversation.

What Cliff left out and is his sneaky way a few posts back he even said a nice thing about Inova's Pediatric's. I don't believe that was a coincidence with this latest HCA announcement. Well planned by Cliff.

Anyway in this article it says that INOVA has had a similar program since 2006. Also look how massive and ugly phase one of of this hospital looks when they show the whole rendering:devil2: Which thye don't hardly anymore or the site plan is never to be found any more I wonder what they are afraid of :devil2: Probably Cliff knows since he hordes and keeps the plans away from anyone who might even question this hospital. :devil2:

    http://loudounextra.washingtonpost.com/news/2008/jul/01/hca-partnership-wont-ease-residents-woes/

Of course the residents complaining the most are the ones most affected by this hospital not the ones on top of their kingdom telling all what is good for them or shut up. :devil2:

OK back to my vacation from the forums:happygrin:

Re: A minute from my vacation

Isn't a vacation by definition taking time away from something? If you were on vacation then you wouldn't possibly be reading any threads to even know if one were lopsided and therefore staying away would probably be a lot easier for you. Since your vacation began 21 hours ago, you've posted three times and four if you count the almost certain reply to this post ;)

Re: A minute from my vacation

The funny thing is that EVERYONE is laughing at you, Lee, because they know you never, ever keep your promise to stay away from the forums. Your ego will not allow it. Just like every few posts, you just have to let everyone know how much your home is worth, name drop, tell about the party at your castle home, how busy you are (the first one everyone calls), etc. You sound like an insecure little boy starved for attention and approval.

I don't know Cliff and have never met him, but if I am not mistaken, he has repeatedly (at least a dozen times on this forum) told various people here he'd be happy to show them the plans for the hospital.

    From the article:
"The proposed site is smack dab in the middle of a residential neighborhood, and my clients have always been very vocal in their opposition to traffic and noise and lighting and 24-7 use," Paice said.

There are legitimate reasons to oppose BRMC. But statements like this are so disingenuous and dishonest as to be laughable. How can someone say this with a straight face?

If something is "in the middle" (smack dab, no less) of a residential neighborhood, doesn't that by definition mean that the hospital would be surrounded by homes ("residences") on all sides? If I was an outsider looking at this statement, I would assume they were building the hospital at the corner of Claiborne and Waxpool. This is shameful.
