Has anyone else been seeing your cable modem dropping it's connection for 30 seconds to a minute several times an hour?

The problem started over a month ago and it seemed to only happen about 2 times a day but is seems to be progressively becoming worse to the point where it drops several times an hour now.

I have a report into Adelphia and they had Capitol Cable (who installed the system) come out and check but I have not heard anything back yet. I am just wondering if other areas are having the same problem and have you reported it to Adelphia?

Yeah I have the same problem. It was so bad last night I couldn't play on any game servers. I would connect, but would time out or lag out every 30 seconds or so. So frustrating. Then when I work from home my VPN craps out on me all the time and have to reconnect and re-establish ALL my connections. The service is getting horrible. I have found the problem to be at Adelphias hub/switch just one hop away from my router. Has anyone talked to Adelphia about this yet. I know this has been going on since October. I have opened 2 tickets on the problem. I did this extended ping test from work....you can see the normal pings and the timeouts......These pings are to my router from work.

When I ping my router from my lan, I get 0% loss and 0ms latency, which is to be expected.
I just want to know if anyone else has complained? I hate "sucking it up" w/Adelphia until we get a new provider.....[V]

I have talked to the local office several times. Capitol Cable their vendor has even been out and checked up to my cable modem. As we suspected the signals were great. They said they would monitor it with a trace route to figure out where it is dropping. That is the last I have heard from them but the problem is getting worse.

I called into the office last week and they claim they got some new IP's and they are causing routing issues inside their network but not other info.

I noticed the hope before my cable modem seems to get a new IP address each time it drops and recovers.

    Curt,
That makes perfect sense. I see the same thing with the IP address changing. Just packet loss and/or latency would not cause the problem we are having because the timeouts are so long and the disconnects occur. The disconnects would not be associated w/the 2% packet loss I see, but rather when the TCP session is broken (the routing stops/changes dramatically). Thanks for the info. BTW Curt, do you drive a yellow '02 Z06?
Ill call them today too and try to get them to get on with the fix.
    Thanks,

I thought that was you curt.
I called Stinkelphia again today and they not only have ip address problems, but also cable modem sync problems. But they assured me that they have "A" guy working on it because it is affecting all of Loudoun county. Wow, Im impressed, and feel much more confident that they have one person working on it.......I just signed up for dial-up service today because I have to have something that works, reliably and consistently, especially when I work from home........"sigh":(

yep im down , again, as well
Man im glad I got a dialup earlier in the week. I saw this one coming. I wonder if we are down because of the maintenance they are doing, or if our modems became unprovisioned again like what happened back in October. Ill call later today and find out.......

this means im probably unprovisioned......ugh -- cause i rebooted my modem this morning around 10:30 and it did not come back up.
Techhead, are you feeling any more of the "problems with latency or cable modem sync? Im curious to see if they may have fixed their problem......
    thx.,

I have not noticed latency or sync issues today, but then again I'm not into online gaming.

Things seems to have gotten better ever since the last big all day outage. What is everyone else observing?

The only thing better is that I now have a stable connection. I did lose modem sync on Sunday, but that cleared up. I also noticed my bandwidth / download speed has decreased. I am now only getting 1.6 meg ( this is at 1am.) on the downloads. I was at 2.8 meg......, upload still sucks at 74k. I hope testing is going well w/ the new wireless.

Due to the weather, we could not do anything this last weekend so the testing has been delayed a week.
