Sunflower was not wearing a collar when he go out and he is not chipped. He usually doesn't go out for long and stays right in the yard. Something must of scared him or chased him away and now he can't find his way back. He loved the outside when he was younger and caught some mice back in his day, but now in his Senior years he likes to just take it easy.

    Sighting update:
It looks like the Golden Meadow sighting might be a bust. I saw a short hair black cat and a long hair with a collar - of course neither one is Sunny. I wasn't home when the post about a black cat in SW on Highview Trail and just drove around the area and posted some signs.

Thank you to everyone for being involved and concerned. This is heartbreaking and it is nice to know that people care.

Just a suggestion, if it's possible, if you see the cat, try and snap a picture with a cell phone or a camera.

Maybe it's time to put together a search party? I would be willing to give up a couple hours on Saturday to form a posse and beat the bushes for a while. [IMG]

My cat was actually inside at this time. My mistake... So this could have been Sunflower. I'm just extra concerned because mine looks just like Sunflower with the very long black fur and we live on Highview Trail and didn't want Sunflower's people to get too excited if it was indeed my cat. But it wasn't mine.

I would think a search party would only make Sunshine hide.

Thanks for posting the steet name sightings it makes it easier to keep the eyes peeled.

This situation promises to stretch on and on, and honestly, has anyone been able to prove a credible sighting? Let's organize a search covering the most likely areas and see what we can find. The worst thing that happens is we get a little excercise, and the best case scenario is someone finds the cat and we put this case to rest.

The owners are obviously motivated to find Sunflower.

When we lost our dog a couple of years ago we were VERY motivated to find him. We put up hundreds of signs and ads in the paper. We attracted a lot of attention because we would hand out fliers to people walking, put signs up in stores, talked to everybody, used a pet tracker, advertised in the paper, etc. And the best thing of all....

the ENTIRE Park View High School football team and cheerleaders helped us one night when we had a sighting. A neighbor who had seen our dog on the day he got lost was very helpful and active in helping us find our dog. He also happened to volunteer with the PVHS football team. This family told us to call them whenever we had a sighting and they would help. He told the guys on the team that whenever there was a sighting they would form a search party and swarm the area. The hope was to surround the dog and send the owners into the middle to get him. The plan went into action one night when we had a sighting. It just so happened that the team and the cheerleaders were having a party at the neighbor's house. Neighbor got the call and the search party was engaged. There were cars and trucks full of high school kids that came out to the sighting area and they all did as they were instructed by the pet tracker and us. I wish I could say that it worked, but it was the closest we came to getting him before we actually caught him. It was our first visible sighting of the dog and it kept him in a somewhat confined area. I was just a couple of feet away from him, but something spooked him back into the thick of the woods of Sterling Park...not to mention it was very late in the evening. It made us feel so good that there were people out there that wanted to help and actually took it as their personal mission to help us reunite with our dog.

Never underestimate the power of a search party. Count me in if the owners would like the help!

The problem is...we don't have any credible sightings to go on. We had three areas we were staking out based on numerous phone calls. I was eventually able to see the "black" cats in each of those areas and they were not Sunflower. We're basically back to square one on trying to find a new search area and new leads.

And a big thanks to everyone keeping an eye out for Sunflower!

It looks like our signs were ripped down this morning (some time between 10am - 12pm). So I'll be back to making more signs. It gets expensive!

The only areas we have right now is Southern Walk - Highview Terrace and the townhomes around the old Shoppers and homes across the street (although I've seen four black cats around that area and none of them are Sunflower).

If we start getting some good sighting, a search party might just be a good idea.

    Thank you!

Speaking of multiple black cats, is Sunflower a social cat when it comes to other cats? or is Sunflower more a people cat?

Do you have signs at all the vets? If Sunflower likes to hang around other cats, maybe one of the owners will make a comment to a vet tech?

After a month, we gotta think that Sunflower is hanging out somewhere. Of course the alternative must also be considered. :(

But in any case I am sure we will all be keeping multiple eyes peeled. I really like how the neighbours are banding around this issue.

If this keeps up, I *might* just start liking people. :)

if she likes other cats there is a HERD of cats hanging out at the corner of Vestals Gap and Gentle Heights- near the entrance to the trail. I stopped walking Beemer that way in the mornings b/c last time there were no less then SEVEN cats hanging out on the rocks and in the grass, just watching us walk by and plotting how to ambush us... sneaky felines... :scaredhide:

none fit the Sunflower description though, and a few I know live in that area and are not strays.

Redon1 - You are funny! Dan check out the gang and agreed! LOL!

Sunflower will tolerate other cats. I notified a couple of vets when he is first went missing, but now all the vets in Ashburn and the emergency vet in Leesburg have been notified and have flyers.

    Sighting update:
I saw the black cat that was on Waxpool near Verizon. He is a stray that lives in the Regency neighborhood and is a resent Daddy with five adorable kittens. It was tempting to take one home that looked just like Sunny when he was a baby.
New sighting on Claiborne near the woods just after Stonebrige HS and Portsmouth. Looked in that area, but didn't see the cat, so please keep a look out in this area.
Still waiting on more information and sighting in SW on Highview Terrace.

Thank you for being such wonderful neighbors and people!

    Sightings update:

Another sighting on Ridgeway, this time off of Mapleton Ct. Big, long haired cat with a mouse in his mouth. Looked in the area, but didn't find the cat.

Back to Ashburn Knolls/Carisbrooke. Waxpool and Convent Garden Way - behind the bus stop shelter. Looked in the area, but didn't find the cat.

    Just keeping the hope alive...

luftinarr - Mapleton is right across from Mill Run.

If you are on Highview - have you seen a black cat your way? Had a sighting over there a couple of days ago, but haven't heard anything since.

Mapleton is the street (a very small cul de sac) right before you get to Sunstone on Ridgeway.

I know life on the hill has an awesome view, since I live at the bottom of the hill, I stare up at you with envy.:devil2:

Wine4KC - no, I haven't seen a cat that resembles Sunny at all. I'm keeping my eyes peeled though. Do you know where on Highview that Sunny was spotted?

Pea - for the awesome view from the hill you pay a premium....and therefore our awesome view is that of our neighbors. :)
