I’ve heard about them, but I never did eat them, until recently.

I use the Metro Connection bus Route 923/924, that stops across from the Broadlands Fountain (Broadlands Route 772 Park & Ride lot, at Old Ryan Rd & Mooreview Pkwy). The whole side between the parking lot and the road is full of these plants. I did not know what it is, something like a huge radish. I picked up one up and determined, that it is likely a turnip. I tried one and survived. Now I enjoy them quite a lot. I pick one every now and then and have it raw, steamed, fried, etc. Try one, before they will likely become victims of some new digging and development. The price is right, and they are super fresh, right from the field.

Two weeks later came a worker with helmet and and industrial string grass trimmer. The results are devastating. Hundreds of turnips cut in pieces. It made me sad to watch. It felt like a turnip genocide. I know few hundred turnips will not save the World or feed enough starving people, but still. It is a shame. I still have few. They are delicious.

Interesting...likely survived from a farm that was once in the area, which is saying something given all the construction activity in that location.
