Is the Dollar Store open yet? I'm in need of supplies for my daughter's bday party this Sunday.

Not as of today, they have now hiring signs up all over the shopping center. They have also been working long hours trying to get the store ready. I drove by this weekend and there were people in there working in the store and putting shelves and inventory up.

@ Glencastle: Thanks. God has been very very good to my parents. He has protected them.
    They are hilariously frugal.

another long story short: after the war, they met, my dad was an accountant by then, got a job with a Dutch company in NY, got his CPA (by the way, LEGAL immigrants coming to the US back then in the 50's were treated so nicely and with such honor, my mom learned to drive a car and speak American haha)
Later, my dad worked many years at GAO. Then he took a job with the State Department and lived with mom, me and my brother in Belgium for 25 years.
They had the best life. Dad was working at NATO and there was a lot of travel involved. They have been every where.

We are moving them to Ashby Ponds in August. I can just say right now, they have a house in Annapolis that needs to be packed up and oh myyyyy gosh there is so much stuff. My sister told my dad he needed to throw some stuff away and he had this look on his face. oh myyyyy:eek:
We have a busy summer ahead.
Still, I am excited to take them to the dollar store.
At present I take them to a zillion doctors and do just about everything. :violin:

I stopped in at Dollar Tree today during their grand opening, and I am delighted to have them as a new tenant at the Broadlands Village Center. Now I no longer have to drive to the Leesburg location for great prices on party supplies, candy and snacks, misc. food products, household goods, and seasonal items. If you're a savvy shopper, you'll find some interesting deals up there, so it's definitely worth a visit.

There are some great deals there! They have painting supplies, frozen foods. I saw some brands that I pay much more for at some of the local supermarkets. I, for one, am thrilled to have them.

Stopped by today and the store is well organized and fully stocked. A great place for party supplies, office supplies, and holiday decorating items. Glad to have one nearby.

we went by this weekend. The store is clean, stocked, and is great! I've been in the mighty Broadlands since 2005...and i'm proud to march into the dollar store :) Maybe next time i'll take my loot, and march right into Starbucks next door and see how *gasps* i get as people look down upon me.

I love the Dollar Tree its great for party supplies, wrapping paper, holiday decor and little things around the house - I picked up a timer there to use when I grill there for 1 dollar - the cheapest timer at Safeway was $15 which I had bought earlier then returned it

    Long live the Dollar Tree!!!

but don't forget... all the fakes and substitute products banned from regular stores make their way to dollar store.

Just be careful buying name brand items 50-80% below market sometimes.... there is a reason for the discount. I know that is an over simplification of the issue but do some research, you will see that this happens.

Are you serious?!?! "Dollar Tree should only be permitted in Sterling Park and check cashing places should only be in the poorest neighborhoods preferably near where minorities live." Minorities are taking over Ashburn and Broadlands so you need to take that bag off your head and get a reality check.

Thanks T8erman, glad someone got the sarcasm. I also shop at WalMart so that bag is always over my head :)

Man I am not sure what all the fuss is over, I was pumped when VA Tire and Auto opened its walkable from my house and not as crowded as the other shops. Its super clean too. It has more business than any of the other shops over there. I wish the rent was not so high over in that shopping center, it ran out several nice small places to eat, I miss Anothai and Flatbread.

Dollar Tree is good to have here instead of going to the nasty location in Sterling. Its not the store that is low class its the people shopping there. Been three times for Halloween stuff, its our typical neighbors and the place was run by students from our neighborhood, its clean and kept organized. Better than another budget restaurant or the 1,000,000th dentist or Realtor

Not sure what people think is going to move in. The rents are too high in the area and we are saturated with the same businesses over and over.

OMG, again with the rents?! Please stop speculating when you don't know the facts. I implore you to find Lalida and Janice, the respective owners of Anothai and Flatbread (and Lorna with Callaloo and Glory Days too while you're at it), and they will all tell you that the rents weren't the reason that they didn't make it. The reasons for sit-down restaurant failures in Ashburn have been beaten to death on the forums, so I won't re-start the argument. But at Broadlands Marketplace, it certainly isn't because of rents - I promise you that.

I know Lalida fairly well and had a good relationship with Janice, both said the rent was very reasonable and it was simply the economy and subsequent decline in customers that caused them to fold up.

I suggest you call Edward Jones then, they have an associate looking to move from Herndon to Ashburn but cannot find anything for less than 10 times what he pays in Herndon.
