Which of the local, shall we say...watering holes are your favorites? And why?

As a smoker and someone who detests drunk driving, I must admit that Glory Days gets a lot of my business. It may not have the best beers or food, but it is a close walk and somewhere I can smoke and watch the games.

I must say that they are becoming a little off on the sports dept. Last few times I have went there they had either nickoldean or some disney movie on the big screen behind the bar. Something just weirds me out about drinking and watching "Finding Nemo".

I think you are stuck... If you want to walk to Clydes or the Steak House, those are the only 2 other choices you have I think? Unless you want to bring over a case to my deck and I will grab my cigars? My bar could open almost any night you want... after the little guy goes to bed!

Yeah, my bar is open every night too. Sometimes a change of scenery is nice. I don't really mind going to Glory Days, but it will never be a "cheers" for me.

One of these days I will have to take you up on the cigar offer. I am not a fan of walking all the way down to Clyde's or SteakHouse. The cops love to run along Claiborne at night and pick up people walking, yet they seem to disregard all the people doing 60 plus down that road.

that is a good point, I forgot about the Pub... I heard decent things about that place more than a year ago.... and what the heck can the cops stop you for when walking? That seems like harassment, unless you are "stumbling" on the road or something.

Sadly - yes. Drunk in public is an offense - so is APPEARING drunk in public. THe best thing to do is if you are walking home tipsy and you get "pulled over" - be polite, tell the truth and have ID on you. If the ocifer is really nice he may give you a lift home.

Sadly - we do not have reliable cabs or public transport out here so your options are designated driver, walk, risk the drunk driving.

I'd take option 2 any day of the week!

The worst is if you happen to be a passenger in a car that's pulled over and you've had a few. You can get a drunk in public that way. Even though you are not, technically, in public.

While that sucks, it's still orders of magnitude better than the potential consequences of driving drunk.

Whewwww, I got lucky then. Few weeks back I went out with some friends. We had someone drop us off at Clydes. Later that night we decided to walk to the Steakhouse to cap off the evening. 2am rolled around and instead of calling a cab, we decided to hoof it back to the Southern Walk SFHs. Seemed like a good idea at the time. I've run that several times, but it's a long walk when you're half in the bag after a long day! WOW. Glad a police officer didn't drive by (no wonder my wife kept texting me, "I'm not bailing you out of jail".
I've always wondered why that is that a cop would have the audacity to arrest or fine you (as long as you're being orderly) when you're trying to do the right thing and walk home. With THAT said though, I do remember a person I went to highschool with. He was walking home after a long night out and decided to take a nap...in the middle of the road. You can only guess where that story goes...
With all this in mind, I'm be calling one of you at 2am the next time!

Glory Days needs to hire someone who actually watches and knows sports.
I have to check the tv listings before I go there and then ask them to change the channel to live sports. And I don't have directv (thanks to the openband sweetheart deal), so I sometimes look up the channels online before I go there, because the bartenders haven't heard of MASN, MASN 2, and never know TBS.
I don't see how having Nickelodeon on in the bar area is a draw?? The Nationals should be on every day .......
I hit the the Steakhouse if I want to watch a game out, even though Glory Days is much closer.

What's even worse is that WHEN they do have sports on that big screens, you can't see much. The picture quality is HORRIBLE. I went there to watch the caps game and left at intermission. The picture was so bad you couldn't see ANY lines on the ice. May be close, but I have to enjoy my time there to spend the money.

My vote is the Steakhouse. Smokepit, (which is a HUGE negative for me) but it's a GREAT place to watch sports. Clydes is the better alternative if you're not going to watch a game though.

all the more reason for establishments to offer a local shuttle! (doesn't Clyde's already?)

My idea: Broadlands residents only, van leaving every hour, $5 flat fee per person. there are plenty of non drinking enterprising people 'round here who could score a few old military vans and cart home drunks! not ME of course... but SOMEONE out there should take idea and run with it and give ME free rides home for a lifetime for putting the idea out there! :)
