I am looking for a low-cost service that will enable me to have multiple (approximately 50) e-mail addresses on a domain that I own. Alternatively, I do have a very old Windows box that I would be able to put Linux on. If I did that, is there low-cost software I could run that would handle e-mail? Is that within the Verizon FiOS terms of service?

    Thanks!

looks like verizon blocks outgoing SMTP port - so you can't run mail servers on it.

Not sure what you call "low cost" but google apps for business is great. $5/month per user.

I second Bluehost. I've been using them for about 7 years and never had a problem. If you're interested I have an affiliate link you can use and I get some kind of credit for the referral. I can't post it here, though. Even if I didn't get a credit I'd still recommend them. They have an easy web interface, lots of tools for email filtering and a TON of options for hosting your own website and offering useful features.

Didn't know they had reduced it; I'm grandfathered before 2011 so have 50. If the OP doesn't need true accounts you can manipulate distribution lists etc to get a few more. You can also use Google nicknames (you get 20 nicknames per email account - they can forward one to one).

Still, as noted above, $5 a month isn't bad given their strong spam filters and push mail if needed.

Thanks for everyone's help. Last night I did go for the Blue Host option as it gives me unlimited e-mail accounts and a web page if I ever decide I need one.

After the infamous Mat Honan hack attack I realized that I am as vulnerable as he was. I'm currently in the process of using a separate e-mail account for each online account I set up and using a password manager to keep track of their long random passwords, and to provide two-factor authentication. I am amazed at how many web sites impose character limits and length limits on their passwords, making them easier to hack. You would think that financial institutions would go for the strongest security possible, instead they are among the weakest.

Ahh, you could have just used aliases or an accept all address with filters, no need for separate mailboxes but glad you're all set. You cant ever be too paranoid online ;)
