Doc Tanen is terrific! Only wish he was on my insurance plan! I had a good experience with this doc too...

May be this is a very silly question...

Any good general physician is good to treat hypothyroidism, right? Do we have to consult endocrynologist?

I guess it depends on how good your GP is but I highly recommend an endocrinologist for hypothyroidism. Isn't amazing how many of us there are?? If your GP does not do regular sonograms of your thyroid then you should go to an endo.

Did you get a chance to consult this doctor?

Is he good? I am also looking for an endocrynologist.

I just changed my insurance. So far, I was with Kaiser.

Any other recommendations for an endocrynologist near by?

I switched to Dr. Tanen in January of 2008 and I can't say enough good things about him. I thought my GP was doing an ok job but Dr. Tanen is worth his weight in gold. I schedule my appointments for non peak driving times and it only takes me 20-25 minutes to get there.

If you are still looking, I highly recommend Dr. Melissa Antonik at Northern Virginia Endocrinologists. She is fantastic! She is in Fairfax, though, but well worth the drive.

I need to resurrect this thread.

I was able to get an appointment with Dr. Horwath in Reston, but earliest is January 23, 2014. Dr Tannen & Dr Crantz does not accept CIGNA.

Any endocrinologist recommendation in the Ashburn/ Sterling/ Reston area? Maybe even Fairfax.....

    Thanks.

We go to Johns Hopkins. It is worth the drive and they have one of the best endocrinology departments in the country. We used to be at UVA but weren't too happy with their services so we switched. We tried a crazy lady in Sterling but walked out during the consult. Can't remember her name.

I go to Dr. Linda Liu at Endocrine and Diabetes Associates, LLC on Montrose Road in Rockville. Usually it's just a once a year appointment for me so I deal with the drive which is actually only about 40-45 minutes outside of rush hour. She is one of Washingtonian Magazine's Top Doctor's and I have gone to her for about 18 years and she's top notch. 301-468-3580.

Hi. Dr Horwath is retiring in September, so I wanted to get new recommendations on endocrinologists around the Ashburn / Lansdowne / Sterling / Herndon / Reston area. Someone who accepts CIGNA would be preferred (=

Dr. Tannen accepts Cigna. Dr.'s often leave health plans when their reimbursements are higher than the insurer will cover, then when circumstances change, will accept the plan once again. Also, if your doctor drops your in-network plan, you can call your insurer and request that they add the doctor back to the network - not always a guarantee but works sometimes.
