Now that my agreement with directtv is up I am probably switching to FIOS. I would welcome any comments by those who have Fios already. Any tips on ordering etc.

We use FIOS, and haven't had any issues with it. I don't really have much more to say than that, but we really like it.

it's just over MEH for me. DVR has much less space than we had with Dish (comp pricing- i bet we could probably PAY for more space) there are some great features, i do like on demand, but if we had stayed with dish I would have been just as happy.

call up directv retention and insist on cancelling, they will give you a good deal.. they gave me another free hd dvr and $20 off monthly and free showtime for a year. I'm not a fan of the fios DVR

I have been a FIOS customer last 2 years.....

Has anyone noticed the internet speed has reduced significantly in the recent months?

I have a 25M_15M speed. But still its very slow.

I tried to test the speed using speakeasy.net and the speed shown there is no way closer to the number above.

I have McAfee scheduled to scan every alternate day.

    Any idea or suggestions?

I just ran a test on mine from the same website and my result was:
    25.77Mbps download and 4.48Mbps upload.

According to Verizon, I'm paying for FiOS Internet Up to 20 Mbps/5 Mbps

As far as how I like FiOS - We've had it almost two years and are happy with it. I like the "On Demand" feature for movies and TV shows. I haven't had any issues with outages for any of the services (phone, internet, or TV). I've heard that some people don't like the DVR but it seems fine to me. Maybe I just don't know what I'm missing since I never had a TiVo unit to compare the two. I hear TiVo is better. I believe you can supply your own DVR as long as you buy a card from Verizon to put in it and make it compatible with your programming options.

I ordered the service online and was able to choose the features and internet speeds I wanted. The installation takes a few hours to be set up.

Isn't DirectTV owned by Verizon? Or at least they offer DirectTV with their phone packages if you are not in a FiOS area.
We have 30/20 and I for one love it.
I don't have a DVR though so that's not something I can comment about.
The HD seems better than Comcast.

You can also sign-up and not go with the 2 year contract. We got the same rate as the 2 year without singing up for a 2 year contract.

Verizon resells DirectTV as a TV option - but they don't own them or anything.

Thanks, wasn't sure if they managed to buy a stake in them or just resold their services.

    Thanks.

My speed test was done using wireless connection. If I hard wired, then I get much better speed.

Is there anything that I can do to improve the wireless connection speed?

I am using the default Verizon FIOS router. Are you also using the router provided by Verizon?

If I want to use a better one, Should I buy both cable modem and router? Or is there a one that has both?

    Thanks for your suggestions.

My test was done wirelessly as well and I use the Verizon setup and router. I don't know a whole lot about what affects the speed except for a few things. You could try changing the channel the router uses. Sometimes some channels get more traffic than others (some cordless phones use them, too) so if your neighbors are all on the same channel as you it can slow it down. Are you using the wireless connection very far away from the router? Some people have trouble if the router is on, say, the main floor and they are on the third floor. Check your router setup at http://192.168.2.1.

    Good luck!

    Thanks again.
I checked the speed only a few feet away from the router. Most of the time I access in the same level as my router. Still not getting a good speed. I am not sure if the router is kept near the TV would affect the speed.

I will check the channel as you said.
