I may have some Fios issues, before I call Verizon, I want to see if others are experiencing the same. TV: is anyone else having some channels with no sound, only picture, for me its some kids channels and NFL Network. Internet: At times, very random occurrences, but has been noticeably bad last 2 days, when opening my browser it takes several tries to connect. Will also have trouble opening new web pages, i.e. clicking on shortcuts and opening new windows. The page will just be blank while trying to find the requested site. Do I have a problem or is this the "normal" Fios?

I have had problems, but not the same that you are experiencing. For me, internet and phone have disconnected from time to time, but never TV (so far). It's happened twice in the last week. In both cases it recovered on it's own. Clearly my installation is not completely stable. I have not called them yet, just monitoring the situation for now.

As much as I want to switch from Comcast to FIOS, we're waiting for a bit. At least with cable, we have no problems...just high costs. I'll deal with that for a while until the bugs are out.

TigerFan, did you try with another computer in the house to see if it's just that one computer? You might switch you DNS servers to OpenDNS and see if that same thing happens.

Tyger, I too was very satified with the stability and speeds of Adelphia/Comcast, but I've had perfect service with FIOS here for several months.... and it's like $20 cheaper/month (and faster)!

I just got FiOS installed on Monday. After one full day of use I do have a major complaint regarding the Home Media DVR:

    1) Recorded a show yesterday morning on the Home Media DVR. Tried watching it on a different TV after work and was trying to fast forward through the commercials, and almost every time I tried fast-forwarding, it jumped back to the beginning of the program...needless to say, I was unable to watch it without commercials.

    2) Also got an error about not being able to locate the HUB...not sure what this is about, but was able to restart without an issue.

Hmmm...interesting, not sure saving $20.00/month is really worth the hassle of switching at this point.

The issue with respect to the audio on the kids channels in my case was due to the incorrect language option chosen on the menu (don't ask me how it happened). Just go to the settings menu where it asks you for the preferred language and just change it to English (somehow mine was set at Spanish and a channel such as Nickelodeon does not have a spanish feed therefore the reason for the silence on the channel).

    TigerFan -

I had some periodic disconnects/reconnects in my Fios recently too, but figured out that the router was setup for "automatic" channel assignment. I did a scan with my wireless to figure out the best channel, and now don't have any major issues. It also increased my wireless speed too. InSSIDer is a good tool to scan your area to use and figure out which channels neighbors are using (the defaults are usually channels 1, 6 or 11 and most of my neighbors are all on 11).

    FIOS internet:
I have noticed that sometime speed becomes little slower than normal....

    FIOS Cable:
Sometimes, I get only audio, no video, no TV guide etc. This happens once in a while....When it happens, I turn off the whole system (tv/HD DVR) and turn it back on, then it would take 30-40 seconds for DVR/TV guide to backup and would be able to see the video.

I think DVR also gives problem if you use it extensively and for a long time. When you try to skip, sometimes, it doesn't skip, you would have to try 3-4 times (its not a battery problem, as I have tried with brand new too)......Sometimes, picture gets stuck when watch from DVR.........Probably, problem with the hard disk used in the DVR....

    Phone:
Sometimes, while i am on a call, if another call comes, first call gets disconnected automatically...... luckily It happens rarely..

But still I am happy with Verizon FIOS as the quality is very good (other than the above problem which occurs once in a while)....

Interesting - that's why we're waiting - we have NO problems with Comcast whatsoever and the quality is excellent as well. Our only beef was their rates....however, talking to a few of our neighbors and what they're getting - doesn't seem to be worth the switch for us right now

Just a heads up for those still awaiting FIOS to be "turned on" - it's now available on Welby Terr. We didn't get any sort of notification, but going online I found it was now available.

As others have said its best to call - the rate they gave me over the phone was $40/month cheaper than what was offered online for the same exact thing.

So for anyone who has recently got it.....happy? We're still on the fence. Is installation a long process? Like all day?

I got FIOS about 6 weeks ago. I've had some problems which I've posted about in this thread. Last week Verizon replaced the ONT. This is my 3rd ONT. Things seem to have stabilized.

They told me that the install can take 4 to 6 hours. When I asked the installer about that, he laughed. They were done in less than 2 hours.

The only problem I have at the moment is that port forwarding stopped working.

We had FIOS installed 1 week ago and it went really smooth. They were at the house for about 2 1/2 hours. Installed internet and TV (2 DVR's).

Really fast internet connect and the on-demand is REALLY nice.

the port forwarding on the actiontec routers is retarded... I'm glad I'm using my own router with Tomato firmware (I don't have TV through FIOS)

I know Verizon is offering all sorts of money saving packages if you sign for a year....but in the long run, after the year is over, do you think the pricing is better overall vs. Comcast?

Port forwarding miraculously started working Saturday. The only thing I did was force the Actiontec to assign a different IP addr to my firewall, re-setup port forwarding, and it now works. I hate it when I don't know why something stops or starts working.
