Giant Grocery Store

According to an article in The Burn, the Giant at Ryan Park will shut down at the end of January. Apparently the parent company is consolidating stores.

 

So another Aldi or Lidl?

 

Probably not since the two here in Broadlands are so close. I have read some speculation that Publix may be interested in that space since they seem to be moving into the Virginia market but don't think there is any real backing for that rumor. (Publix is a big Florida chain that is mainly in Florida and the South.)

 

Publix was looking at Broadlands Center Plaza & Northern Virginia back in 2016-7 when Safeway closed but decided to solely focus on the Richmond / Southern Virginia area instead. If Publix comes to NOVA, they would likely build a supermarket from scratch and not a retrofit on an old store.

 

Being from Florida, I always thought the Spanish style architecture in the Ryan park center looked like a Florida shopping center. Publix would look right at home there.

 

A Giant store manager I spoke to said due to Giant's 'Ryan Park' closing there are plans to transfer some employees to the Junction Plaza location as well as giving that old store a much needed makeover.
