Okay, so WOW is closed. What else do folks recommend for a gym? I am partcularly interested in opinions about the childcare provided. Is there anyplace that doesn't throw the toddlers in with all the other kids? I know most places separate infants, but I was unhappy with a gym where we used to live, that tossed my son, as soon as he could walk, out of the infant area and in with all the rest. Too rough for a new walker and not enough staff to supervise when they were crowded. He'll be fine now with bigger kids but now I have a younger one that I am concerned about.
    Any advice would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

Depends on how far you want to go. If locale is what you're looking for, there's nothing around here where the kids area isn't one small room for kids of all ages. I checked out Fitness First a few days ago and not only was the person who took me around not crazy about me being there (here's a treadmill, there's the free weights and stuff, etc) the kids area closed early, was small, and had no separation for infants/todds or older kids.

I've heard Gold's Gym in Ashburn is good for the kids club. And, of course, Worldgate Sport & Health in Herndon is a godsend for a kids area.

I joined Anytime Fitness so that I could work out when my kids were asleep (or otherwise home with my husband) and avoid the childcare issue altogether. I've been very happy with it - good equipment, never crowded. It does not have classes but if you just want a workout at any time of day or night, it serves the purpose.

Also like Anytime Fitness as it is incredibly convenient. No childcare, no frills, but open 24/7 and rarely crowded. Plus I can walk to and from the center. Good luck to you!

There are other threads on this topic... do a quick search and you'll find them. But very quickly, to repeat what I said in those threads, I workout at Golds and do so because my 2 and 4 year olds love it. They have NEVER complained about going, and I go 5-6 days a week. They have three separate rooms, one is designated for "big kids" and in the largest room they have an arts/crafts area separated with little chairs for kids to draw, color, etc.

OK.. that wasn't so brief, but I'd suggest you check it out for yourself. My little ones love it and there are rarely a bunch of big kids running around. Probably because I typically go during school hours, though. But even on Saturdays I have no problems.

Agree with sharse and it is probably the best gym for the little ones. Not only that it is one of the largest gyms on the east coast so they say. Has a lot of equipment the people are very nice and informative and lots of classes. If I still had littles I would still belong to this gym. I used to belong but it was just a tad too far away to make it convenient. The nice thing if you don't have kids it is also a great place to workout as you don't even know any kids are there, so they must be doing something right with the little guys:) I belong to fitness first behind the new Giant and is a nice gym but not run as well as golds and does not look as kid friendly as Golds. Good gym tho if you know what you are doing and have some nice equipment such as the wave.
