I have some irritating popup whenever I get on Internet Explorer that's an advertisement for, and telling me I've signed up, for some Movie Pass. It is virtually impossible to x it out..so I have to control alt delete to remove it. Anyway I can rid this demon from my computer totally?

Sounds like you have some sort of Spyware installed on your computer. Here's something easy to try and see if it resolves your issue. Microsoft currently offers their Spyware cleaner/protector free during their beta period. I have been using it for over 9 months now and as much as I don't like Microsoft, this particular application seems to do its job very nicely.

You can download Microsoft Defender by visiting: http://www.microsoft.com/defender

Let us know if it solves your issue!

ooo.. if you have the one I think it is.. its NASTY and nearly nothing removes it. I spent quite awhile with my sister-in-laws computer basically hacking the hell out of it to get rid of it.

Tell us the name of the app and which webpage it redirects you to.

The one I had to fight was some movie download thing that was the most annoying spyware I've ever encountered and the most bolesterous that they INTENTIONALLY make it near impossible to deinstall and tell you that you agreed to NOT uninstall their program in their terms of service. which almost no one sees because it rode in on some other click-install thing.

    Try this one
    http://www.schrockinnovations.com/removemoviepass.php

when I went through it.. I didn't find all the same processes they outlined.. but I think it too awhile and some time in safemode to get rid of the notifier app.

Follow their steps and see if it helps. This is a nasty one to get rid of for non-computer savvy folks.

You can also try calling them to cancel IF you know your account info. I don't think that was an otpion for me.

Are you for real? You're giving advice about blocking popups? I clicked on your banner and your website gave me four annoying popups (and who knows what else).

And if you are truly a "computer modification" expert that wants to get business through your website, I would suggest fixing the spelling errors in your banner and on your website. And if you need to host advertisements to pay for your site, use banner ads instead of popups!

    Right on, PF.

You might also consider not having your forums link open in that middle frame thats way too small to handle it.

And I don't know that I'd be so bold as to label it 'Your No. 1 Source of computer-Modifactions' until I had some content...but thats just me.

    They can't, don't worry.

Once you get this thing removed, you should consider purchasing an internet security suite that blocks popups, viruses, spam, etc.

Will this work "after the fact?" Or will it only clean/protect from this day forward and my demon popup will stay intact?

most apps can clean up what's already there.. but the more annoying ones can not be removed automatically.. this is one of those.

you shouldn't be downloading anything to remove this.. just follow the 'next' links at the bottom to read the multiple page explaination on how to do it. You'll be modifying the registry, booting into safe mode, etc.

don't worry about being billed.. just get rid of the garbage

When you get rid of that malware, a good step to avoid future re-infections is to not use Microsoft Internet Explorer and Microsoft Outlook. Replacing those two applications will cut your risk by about 90%.

For alternative web browsers, look at Firefox, Mozilla, and Opera. There are dozens and dozens of web browsers to choose from.

For alternative e-mail applications, many people like Eudora. I've tried the Mac version several times in the past 10 years and I'm not thrilled. I'm sure some of the Windows-using posters here can list a dozen or so e-mail applications for Windows that they like.

According to the Lavasoft website, Ad-Aware should recognize this Adware, however, I've found that in order to remove some of these, you have to boot to Safe Mode and run Ad-Aware from there.

Folks, give Pc Gamer 2006 a break. He/She is 13 years old and trying to run a small website, etc. When folks informed him that his popups were annoying, he quickly complied and took it down. No harm done...

Let's not all start attacking someone who's trying to learn how running a website works, etc...

Now, let's get back to helping out ChattyCat...

To be honest, it may be able to remove parts of the offending software, but you might want to start taking an inventory of which files are important to you, and any software you have intentionally loaded. There have been some articles as of late that say the only true way to be safe after a spyware install is to rebuild the machine. I would tend to agree, but I am more paranoid than most. If you do decide to rebuild the OS, you should look into acquiring a known internet security suite.
