Behind our house is a storm drain emptying towards Bullfrog Pond. In the past the HOA came through about once a year and whacked down all the weeds, trees, vines etc growing in it. However this has not been done for the last several years. The area has become quite overgrown with vegetation both within the storm drain area, off to the sides, and up into air. The tallest plants must now be about 20 feet.

Was this a conscious decision on the HOA's part? Must admit some ambivalence about this. While we do have a greater degree of privacy, our view of the pond has been substantially diminished, and the whole effect is not very attractive. Also much more difficult to get at the trash which seems to accumulate through the storm drains from the street.

Bull Frog pond was turned over to the county a few years back for maintenance. It is all part of a larger water management plan. I can not be sure but I believe that is the reason why. If you send me a PM with the exact location of the storm drain I will research it for you and give you a definite answer.

The county allows removal of the invasive vines, but you may want to check with them before hand. In 2004/5 I filled 8 compacted lawn bags with those vines from behind our backyard. Now an oak tree and several black gum trees are growing and the trees that had vines wrapped around them are thriving. I never found the mother root so the vines are taking over again.
