Did anybody else receive a call at 3:28 am today? It's a recorded message from the Sheriff's Office (I think, I was only half-awake) regarding a missing 12 year old boy.

Very elaborate prank call then, we had two helicopters with search lights looking for the young man. Curious if anyone knows more details...

yes, we got it about 0400, i didn't think it was a prank, but I didn't understand what the call was for, I wish there were more details. If they needed people to help search, they should have asked, I'd go help.

Definitely knew that was not a prank when I heard it, I was hoping, too, to see more details here this morning.

We got it at 2. I didn't recognize the number so I didnt' answer, but it was on the voice mail this am. I also heard the helicopters. We're not in Broadlands, but over off Ryan near Brambleton. I haven't seen anything else on it. It's the first time we've had a reverse 911 call in the 18 years we've lived in Ashburn.

Certainly feel like LOCO Sheriff owes its citizenry an update. Is there a child abductor on the loose or is this a runaway situation? Would be nice to know before the kids head outside to play... The robo call and police copters were pretty dramatic.

I just did a search online including the Loudoun County Sherriff's website and found nothing. I also would like to know why they woke us up. If it was such a dire emergency shouldn't it be in the media and on LOCO Sherriff's site?

Also think this subject line should be changed from prank call to "Missing Boy."

I think a missing 12 year old boy is an emergency and warrants a wake-up call in case someone has some timely information.

My call occurred at 2:08 and it let me know why search helicopters were flying overheard. I bet the phone calls lessened the number of calls to the sheriff's office asking if there was anything to worry about, enabling the sheriff's office to focus on the search.

I'm sure the call also served to see if anyone had any information that could assist with the search. For instance, had anyone seen a boy matching the description earlier in the day? Even, take a look or your windows or around your property, do you see anything that might provide the sheriff's office with any leads?

From the Broadlands Naturally FB page: Broadlands neighbors: the LCSO is looking for a missing 12 year old boy. His name is Daniel Hall. He attends Eagle Ridge. He was last seen yesterday afternoon, 2:45pm. He may be on a bike. with a very distinct helmet: red with black/red tipped mowhawk. Wearing light colored shorts, a yellow t shirt, glasses. His parents reported him missing last night and most of our street searched for him until 3 in the morning. Please talk with your kids and if you have more info, please call the Sheriff 703-777-1021.

Around 9am this morning, a post on the Broadlands Naturally Facebook page notes "HE IS HOME SAFE."

Just got a call from the LCSO that the boy is safe and sound and thanking the community. So glad to hear that.

We actually received two calls. One did not appear to have a message. I was not at my most alert state. The second did (as above). I think that although anyone who knows me knows that I need all the beauty sleep I can get, our Sheriff's Office exercised good judgement on this one. A missing child is important.

I agree with Mom 8386. I was surprised to see this posted on that Broadlands Naturally Facebook page, but NOTHING on the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office Facebook page (which would normally post stuff like this), and no Loudoun County Alert texts (which would also normally post stuff like this) either. If a boy was missing and it warranted phone calls at 2 a.m., why weren't the usual communication methods like Loudoun County Alert and the LCSO FB page used?
