We are new to the area and I have a 13 year old daughter who wants to play soccer. I really don't understand how these leagues here work. I am looking for a competitive program that plays in the Ashburn area, we don't want to travel. I have researched Loudoun Soccer and Ashburn Soccer Club but it's not clear where the kids play, when they practice etc...Can anyone offer some advice to a newcomer please?

For your daughter you listed the two options in the Ashburn area. I am a coach at Loudoun Soccer so admittedly will lean toward Loudoun Soccer or at least I know more about their organization. Loudoun Soccer offers three levels of play; Rec, Challenge, and Travel. Unfortunately, for your daughter, Challenge ends at 12 mostly due to numbers and players moving to travel or dropping out. So not wanting to commit to travel then look at Rec. Ashburn Soccer Club has Rec as well as travel. Ashburn Soccer Club has some very talented travel teams but on the rec side numbers are limited and by 13 only one or two teams can be formed. Loudoun Soccer is a considerably larger organization being one of the largest (if not the largest) in the state. Costs a roughly the same though Loudoun Soccer will have more resources in coaching, pull for available fields and office support for off the field issues. My biased recommendation is to go with Loudoun Soccer. You will be able to chose your area to play (Ashburn as opposed to Leesburg, South Riding, etc.) which hopefully ends up convenient for you. Hope this helps.
