Hopefully this will pass and keep the threat of breaking up our communities away!

Superintendent to Make New Recommendation for Stone Bridge High School Attendance Zones

The Superintendent provided advance notice to the School Board late last week that the staff is preparing a new recommendation regarding attendance zones for Stone Bridge High School (SBHS). Last Spring the attendance zone process ended without the School Board resolving the overcrowding at SBHS.

Because it has become all to obvious that funding for future construction projects will be severely limited, the Staff's recommendation will propose to move the Lansdowne community's students to Tuscarora High School (THS) in a phasing that either starts in the past manner with all rising ninth and tenth grade students being assigned to THS or an a plan that would phase in one grade per year. In either case upper class-men will be given a choice of moving or staying. However, its been over 40 years since LCPS opened a high school with a senior class and I don't expect to do it at THS.

The planning documents will be sent to the School Board in soft-copy later this week. The issue of determining SBHS's and THS's attendance zones will be presented as an Action Item to approve the attendance zone process calendar at our November 10th meeting. The process will include at least one public hearing and a School Board Attendance Boundary Work Session. The Superintendent expects adoption of a plan at our December 8th meeting.

I don't for see a need to consider attendance zone changes to Briar Woods, Broad Run, Heritage, or Loudoun County High Schools. Students that are currently in the approved Tuscarora High School attendance zone should not be involved in this rezoning process either.

Yep here we go again. Bed enough when they took Badlands out of there zone. My son was a rising Junior, and we'd moved to Ridgeway from the Farm. All rising juniors were grandfathered in, but only rising Seniors could tale the bus. Kaosgirl was very familiar with SBHS and was so excited to go there and then BAM it was taken out from under us. Oh well...

Its time again to make yourself heard as the Board will vote on a crucial boundary decision in the next 2 weeks.

On Dec 3, there is a public input meeting at the school admin building on the proposed boundary change for Stone Bridge that would move Landsdown students to Tuscarora. There are two plans up for vote, the difference being what grade will be grandfathered-in at Stone Bridge. The board will vote on Dec 8.

How does this affect Broadlands? If this change is not approved, then the HS boundaries will be back up for planning which could and most likely will impact Briar Woods attendance.

To support this plan, wear black and sign up to speak if you can.

Please, please, please come to the meeting on Thursday and wear black, We NEED this boundary adjustment. Overcrowding will continue if something is not done- and although it does not directly impact Broadlands yet, it will in the future. Meeting starts at 6:30 at the admin building, but plan on arriving early. You do not need to speak. Just show up!

well tonight she can do nothing, it is a public hearing.... hopefully all will be hearing the facts about overcrowding and its impact on our kids. On the 8th we have the vote and she since she is on the BOS and not the school board (though I am sure she wants to be) she can't vote and her buddy mr. O has already said he will vote to move them if phasing is implemented.

The board passed the boundary change to phase Landsdowne to Tuscarora and out of Stone Bridge. Great news for the time being. Quotes from Cliff's speech made several newspaper articles.

The next larger battle is looming as the board will need to find a spot for the next HS which has recently been slated for north of the Greenway. Depending on where the land is found/purchased, all Ashburn area schools will be affected. I heard that in 5 years there will a HS worth of kids above capacity just in Ashburn (including B'lands)! The location of this new school is key to whether B'lands stays in BW. Rumor is that Landsdown is already pusing for the new school to be as far south of them as possible so that they get back into SB and all other communities shift south.
