Looks like the going rate is $250 or less -- any input as to less expensive places, or just anyplace that did a good job? Thanks!

'bout to look into this stuff as well but I've been told that the program through the school is preferrable, better teach to student ratio = more driving time versus sitting in the back seat.

Actually, there are minimum hours required for both driving and watching. The private instruction is better IMO. I've had one do private and one do school and the private instructor had better "tricks" to help by far.

I used Mr B's driving school out of Aldie. He was a friend of my daughter's basketball coach. 703 327-6507. He was really good.

Well, the high school program has a 6-12 month wait list as I just learned. So, still hopeful someone has a private instructor they liked . . .

If you are interested in having your kids actually learn car control skills vs just the rules of the road, the Street Survival class is wonderful. This course illustrates car control and teaches things like how to brake, lane changes, loss of contrl situatons, etc all related to accident avoidance.

This is all done using the car they would normally drive and puts them in situations where the skills they learn could save them from having an accident or save their lives.

We used Mike at I Drive Smart in Leesburg. I can't speak for all their instructors, but he was terrific with our student.

We used Ashburn Driving School and Lyle Tulloch who is the owner and instructor was great with our son. He was really helpful in teaching our son and our son really liked him. I would recommend him.

We used Aloha Bob at Aloha Driving School. He came highly recommended to us and he was great. He took my kids on all different types of driving routes; highway, side streets, beltway. You name it he did it. Here's his website:
