Update from Sylvia R. Glass, Broad Run District Supervisor:

The traffic light at Demott Drive and Waxpool Road is anticipated to be turned on by the end of the year. VDOT is inspecting the signal next week, which should give a good indicator of the exact date it can be turned on. We have been waiting months for a communications device for the signal, which was held up due to supply chain issues. It has finally arrived and is being programmed for the signal. Let me know if there is anything else I can answer.

I hope the noise from those loud cars does not bother everyone too bad who lives on DeMott. It is pretty bad listening to those loud cars race south on Claiborne after that light was installed.

It was happening before the install. They race to make the green light at Claiborne/Waxpool.

Actually the light has calmed that loud racing down some. They used to take off from the Claiborne light and race up Waxpool over the Greenway. Haven't heard that since lights have been active. Speeds on Demott seem to have slowed a bit as well.

I have not noticed any positive changes. The lights need to be timed perfectly to slow traffic.

It has made a huge difference if you ask me. It has reduced some of the speeding on Waxpool to a certain extent. Also, I have seen a a decrease in average speeds on Demott as well. I'm not saying it has eliminated all speeding, but it HAS made a positive difference. Additionally, it's MUCH safer for pedestrians to use that intersection now - as a dog owner, I would cringe anytime I had to cross Demott to get on the walking path.

Finally, I have not seen an accident at this intersection in weeks, and the sound of cars screeching as they slam on their breaks has also decreased considerably. Considering that we would see at least one accident at that intersection about every 2 weeks, it's a huge improvement.

Now, all we need is for the LCSO to get someone to patrol the section of Waxpool/Truro Parish between Ashburn Road and Belmont Ridge, as well as Claiborne between Broadlands Blvd and Croson and ticket the speeders/racers that seem to come out every evening. Also, they should ticket the vehicles that have modified their exhaust systems to produce noise so loud, you can hear them from a quarter to a half mile away as they speed down Waxpool, Claiborne and even Demott.

Glad to hear you are concerned about the noise. This is a huge quality of life issue for us. You should come to my house sometime and hear the rudeness displayed

I would suggest that everyone who is concerned about the speeding and the noise should contact the LCSO as well as our Loudoun County Supervisor, Sylvia Glass. Her contact info is as follows:

    Sylvia.Glass@loudoun.gov
    Office Phone: 703-771-5088
    Main Phone: 703-777-0204
    https://www.loudoun.gov/2254/Broad-Run-Supervisor-Sylvia-R-Glass

Considering that this has been going on for many months/over a year, I don't think that the LCSO considers these sections of road as a priority right now, so maybe with a little bit of nudging from our Supervisor, they will prioritize our area and increase their presence in the area and reduce the speeding and noise violations.

One would be my neighbor. His truck has a modified exhaust. Mostly between 620-645am. And once he enters Claiborne he goes full throttle.

I hope Supervisor Glass takes input from her constituents seriously; as I've called LC Sheriff. They told me the State Legislature changed the law so as not to target the exhaust systems anymore. I think this gets resolved at the state level.

Read "Part B" of the law.

Here too. Noise can be heard everywhere in the house, even back bedroom with door closed. My front den has windows and pictures rattle. What has this world come to?

I don't know if it's just coincidence, but since the light was installed, there has been an uptick in drag racing on Demott. Full throttle shenanigans on the weekend, Friday late night and Saturday late night.

Per the suggestion from Mr. Linux, I wrote to Supervisor Glass. No response and this was over a week ago. An issue of concern to her-- we shall see.

This light is a net gain. Being stuck behind cars afraid to go was annoying. As for the added noise, expect much more of that anyway with all of those new homes being added to Demott.
