They must study it to death sometimes Literally and of course money.

We are lucky to have a four way stop sign at waxpool and ashburn village as I posted under speeding. I did call the county traffic engineer many years ago about the waxpool situation and he told me they needed a year or more of studies and that was just to get a four way stop. We did get a four way stop after many crashes and a horrific one which I don't remember if it resulted in a death or not, after that there was a four way stop signs almost immediately, apparently it took a tradgedy to realize a long study was no longer needed. Even the police that investigated the crashes could not believe how long it took to get a four way stop sign at that intersection.

That's the whole point. How much study is required? Hmmm...let me think... 8 lanes lanes of opposing traffic on a major commuter route meeting at an intersection with no traffic control. Sounds pretty simple to me?
Another example of the lunacy can be seen at the intersection of Overland Park and Broadlands Blvd. There is a stop sign in place on the north side of that intersection. The funny thing is there is no road there. I wonder who did the study for that one?

This is nuts! Tonight, traffic was backed up on Claiborne from Broadlands Blvd. to beyond the Greenway overpass. Is anybody doing anything about this?

Now look, they said the lights would be up by the beginning of the school year. They just didn't say WHICH school year.

The sad fact is that it will take a near tragedy (or a fatality) to get these folks off their butts - that's what it took fior the 4-way stop. Not happy abpout it, but them's the facts.

Unless anyone knows a good, cheap lawyer.

FWIW .. The HOA Board and Van Metre are just as frustrated as you are.

If you'd really like to try to have someone move on this, send Chairman of the Board of Supervisors, Scott York an email, and see if he can help.

In addition to contacting Scott York, I suggest an email to our pro-development county supervisor Steve Snow: ssnow@loudoun.gov

Also, as the republican controlled board has essentially stripped Scott York of much of his authority, perhaps a note to Vice-Chairman Bruce Tulloch is also in order. His email address is: btulloch@loudoun.gov

From the Loudoun County Government web site, Mr. Snow is involved on several transportation related boards:

"He is Chairman of the Board of Supervisors’ Human Services Committee and also serves on the Board’s Transportation/Land Use Committee.

He represents Loudoun County on the Route 28 Transportation Improvement District Commission, Northern Virginia Transportation Coordinating Council (TCC),..."

A key message to our county supervisors might be that before supporting additional development, perhaps they should work harder to insure that the infrastructure is in place for the existing population or we might not be duped again.

In an update from Van Meter on Tuesday the light at Broadlands Blvd and Caliborne is in a final submition for one of the footers and as soon as it is approved they have it planned to be in 'on a fast track"
the light at Claiborns and Waxpool is being put in by the county so the person that you need to contact is Chuck Acker his number is (703)777-0163. If we can get every person that posts on this forum to call Mr Acker and tell him what we think of his delays in putting in this light I believe we will have it sooner rather then later

Even though York has been stripped of some board duties, he is a Supervisor 'at large' since he was elected by the whole county. The only supervisor so elected. I would definitely include him in any emails.

Go back and read the history on this thread. Snow gave us some lip service over a year ago. I don't think anyone knows who's in charge of this "project"- all we get are promises that no one delivers on. We'll be lucky if we ever get stop lights on Claiborne.

Response I got from Steve Snow's office:

I share your frustration with this intersection. Each time we inquire
into the status of the signal installation, we are told that it should
be done within the next month, but for a variety of reasons, it is
continually pushed back. This signal is not a County signal but a
developer signal, meaning that it is the responsibility of the developer
to create and submit the plans to VDOT for approval and permits and to
have the light constructed. Apparently, last week the plan was
submitted again for a footing redesign to VDOT (I am not sure what this
review entails but I believe it is a minor review). I believe that the
redesign was just approved by VDOT within the last day or so and the
signal is now ready for construction.

This leads us to another problem. Apparently, there are only two
companies in Northern Virginia that have the proper certification to
install traffic signals. As a result, they have quite a backlog of
projects. Since the County does more work with this particular company
than Van Metre does, they have decided that they want to keep their
bigger clients happiest by doing all the signals that the County is
responsible for first, before they start doing signals for developers.
The essentially means that the intersection of Claiborne and Broadlands
gets pushed lower on their "To-Do" list. Yesterday, our office through
the County's Office of Transportation Services notified the company that
this signal is the County's highest priority and they need to have it
installed immediately. I am hopeful that this means that within the
next few weeks we will have an installed and operating signal at that
    intersection.

I will try to keep you up to date, but feel free to check back in a
couple of weeks if you have not heard from me. If you have any other
    questions, please let me know.

    Regards,

    Mike

To go along with Sarasmom I have talked to the developer this morning as well and they confirm what Steve Snow's office said. They do have there final approval though have not yet recieved the plans back. They have been in touch with the contractor and will hopefully have schedule for instalation some time in the vary near future. As soon as I get that information I will let you know.
As to the light at Claiborne and Waxpool that light is being installed by the county. They began constuction but ran into utilities and rock that they were not expecting so they had to go back to square one and resite the footers. This is apparently a lengthy process but I will try to keep track of where things are and let you know as soon as the plan gets approved.
Additionally I have requsested a traffic study be done at the intersection of Demott and Broadlands Blvd at the Safway entrance. I am hoping that VDOT decides to require a light or some other sinage as it is difficult to navigate out of the shopping center as you can not see on comming traffic. I will let you know the results when the study is done

    One more update:

I just recieved word from our Transportation staff that both the Claiborne/Broadlands signal and the Waxpool/Claiborne signal have recieved the necessary permits and are ready for installation. As I indicated earlier, it is now just up to the signal company to install the signals at those intersections. I am hopeful that installation will begin within the week. I am told that installation takes approximately 30-45 days from start to finish. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me.

    Regards,

    Mike
