Instead of the verbal rant I was going to post, I'll ask a few questions that hopefully a few of you know the answers to.

We all know traffic in our area is horrendous -- especially in the mornings on Waxpool, LCP, Ashburn Farm/Village Road etc.

    Anyway, so I must ask:

Do any of you know of pending improvements being made that will help to ease the congestion at the major intersections in our area? It takes me between 14-20 minutes to go 4.5 miles from the Harriss Teeter shopping center to the Wegmans interchange.

I've seen a ton of construction on the left and right of Waxpool right before the new country club... is that a new road being built?

I heard there are some new roads being opened that will connect Gloucester (in Ashburn Village) to LCP.. hopefully relieving some traffic on Waxpool.

I saw traffic 'analysts' sitting in cars on the sides of the major interesections in our area about 3-4 weeks ago -- anyone know what they were looking for?

Thanks for the insight if you can share it.

    -C

p.s. I remember the days back in 2000-2002 when I could get from the Ashburn Village Giant to Rt. 28 in about 6 minutes. :)

Don't get your hopes up for many many many more years and there is zero money to improve or build new roads. Pacific extension migh be delayed since they are short the money to build it to nokes.

Waxpool behind Verizon is the only road to go under construction in the next month or so. But nothing is going to be done to Waxpool from the Skating rink to 28.

Rt 7 is going to get two more interchanges at Loudoun County Parkway and Ashburn village to go under construction this fall and that is about it. The special session does not look promising this yeard to figure out how to raise money for new roads. Hence many projects are on hold until there is funding. Perhaps years away.

So if traffic is bugging you it is only going to get a lot worse with zero impovement for a zillion years if ever. Just wait when they build the new park and ride lot by home depot later this year and the traffic around there will come to a standstill during rush hour.

Here is a preliminary future plan (more like Utopia) for the road system in LoCo. There may be a more current plan. This all assumes, of course, there is actually some coin to build/widen all these roads.

Wait-- there is going to be a park-and-ride built behind the home Depot on Shellhorn?

There will be a permanent one when the rail gets here.

Loudoun Station is supposed to build a temporary one and have gone in for approval from the county.

Since you are reminiscing, I might as well. I remember the days in the late 70s maybe early 80s of riding my 3-wheeler around the farm which is now Ashburn Farm. Would ride down to Partlows and fill it up with gas. They used to have gas pumps out front. Oh those were the good ole days. Obviously things change.

As to your questions, I don’t have any other information for you. I leave early for work around 6:30 to miss all that fun.

The biggest help for Ashburn traffic would be: Gloucester needs to be extended to the new Nokes/28 interchange. Gloucester is currently being extended from Marblehead to LCP. From there its a straight shot across undeveloped land to the under construction Nokes/28 interchange. As far as I know there are no immediate plans for this vital link. What a completed Gloucester-Nokes 4 lane arterial would do is divert a large portion of Belmont Forest/Ashburn Village traffic off of Waxpool/Farmwell. Thus improving traffic for Ashburn Farm/Broadland/Brambleton commuters. Before money is spent on an interchange on 7 for Ashburn Village or LCP, complete Gloucester through to Nokes. We need more East-West links not more North-South improvements in Eastern Loudoun County.

Well when the last board turned down Kincora that ended any immediate hope to get Gloucester thru. My guess it will be many many many years for that connection . Kincora has asked for some idea what this new board what like to see them build and that poor excuse for a bos Andrea McGimsey thinks the state should build it. :pofl::pofl::pofl::pofl::pofl::pofl::pofl:What planet does she live on and she thinks Kincora should only build by right which is basically data centers and flex on that prime property. Andrea McGimsey must have a few brain cells missing. :devil2: So by right means gloucester could never be built in many of our life times. :pofl:

If your goal is to go from Ashburn to DC, the choices are a bit limited. Even if you're trying to get to the Dulles Park and Ride to take the bus, you're still sitting in the heavy part of the Waxpool traffic. Gloucester's connection to LCP will help ease a little bit of the traffic on Waxpool/Farmwell between Ashburn Village Blvd. and LCP, but people going that way still need to get onto Waxpool to connect with 28 and/or the toll road.

I think this is why some people pony up and pay the big bucks to take the Greenway.

The best option seems to be to leave earlier in the morning before the Waxpool backups start, whenever that is. Alternatively, you could get a helicopter...

Telecommuting is a great option. Fortunately, we own our own business so we don't have to commute at all. Agree it saves gas, carbon emissions, traffic and money, but the catch-all phrase "it saves the environment" is a rather dubious statement.

Does any one know what is going on with the intersection of Waxpool RD and Ashburn Village Blvd? This intersection is always busy with at least 20 to 60 cars at each stop sign and only one car at the time can go. It does not make any sense to me. In Europe, they will have a traffic police helping easing the traffic. I don't understand why Loudoun county Sheriff don't see this as problem and try to help?

They are widening waxpool but it is many years away for a light. As a matter of fact they are putting in utilities so expect one lane at times for several years to come like this afternoon.
