Man...you missed the sarcasm that was oozing from my posting!

Sure, I could have put the trash out the night before...but since they always pick up the trash in the afternoon, why do I need to put it out the night before? Secondly, last memorial day, they picked up my trash after I had put it out at 9 AM. This year, they probably picked it up earlier than they did last year. No biggie -- I can wait til Thurs AM to put the trash out.

Stealth technologies to see if the trash got picked up or not? Hmmmm that's a new one for the ages.

I was wondering if the trucks are equipped with GPS. Once or twice when I called the office the dispatch knew the exact location of the truck and where they had already been.

The trucks are equipped with GPS
And Patriot has given the HOA access to that information so at any point in time we can tell where they are and where they have been.

I'm not side tracked about it - I'm saying its a way to make this entire problem go away. You say you are comfortable with 'taking my chances' - yet you obviously juggle this frequently enough you have recollection of past holidays or other things. You act like this is always a problem... well we can try to micromanage the times trucks come around (which isn't going to happen), listen to people complain that the trucks USED to come at X, now come at Y.. woah is me.. or we can make the entire problem go away all together. It's focusing energy on fixing the problem rather then just looking to answer each complaint.

Did you ask how they know their 'facts' vs your 'facts'? The trucks have GPS and there is a tracking system the HOA office has access to - so they do know when the trucks have come or not. You say you didn't hear the truck - they have GPS data that says the truck was on the street.

Maybe there were mistakes or problems - but it seems you were sidetracked that because you didn't see/hear the trucks, you took that as authorative without considering the other information available.

But again... a problem that has a simple solution....

Maybe because it didn't diverge from your normal posting attitude.

Because you are basing your assumptions on unreliable information. While they may come at 2pm one day.. they could come at 7am the next day. And no they don't need to tell you, or the HOA, that they are going to change. So if you miss trash because you ASSUMED when they were coming - that is your fault alone. Their pickup time does not need to be regular.

People can do as they please - but don't expect sympathy when it bites you in the rear.

For some reason, my posting got messed up...

This is what I wanted to put AFTER Flynnibus' posting. Sorry about that...

Ive been here nearly 2 years and never have they failed to pick up my trash in the PM. They NEVER hit my street earlier than the afternoon. So Im not worried about it. This is the FIRST year on a holiday no less--that they either came earlier or missed my street. *SHRUGS*

Their facts are wrong. GPS is not perfect and when streets are close together a GPS can easily show that you are on a different street than you actually are. The GPS in my car logs everything too, and if you believe those logs, I am driving through my neighbor's living rooms and offroading just about everyday as I leave the neighborhood. Patriot can pretend they know everything from miles away by watching something on a computer screen, but I know where I was at 8:30AM Monday morning, and there was no trash truck here.

Gunzour - I also live in SW and quite often they pick up our trash very early in the morning. And there have been many times where I have not heard them come by. First, I am not listening for them. Second, routine house noise can be louder than what they are. FWIW, our street had a grand total of 2 cans out that I could see.

That would be poor maps likely.

Commercial GPS accuracy is typically within 30 feet. The street alone is wider then that. The distance between different streets is across an entire lot or multiple lots.. meaning hundreds of feet.

I highly doubt they have trouble determining the actual location of the truck due to GPS accuracy.

Ok fine, let's say their logs are right and my hearing is failing me. We still had our trash out prior to what their GPS logs state, and it still wasn't picked up.

I have no agenda here other than to report that our trash was missed. That's all. It seems strange to me that so many of you think a business -- any business -- is infallible. I have no reason to make up stories.

I don't think any business is infallible..

I had issue with people living on the edge.. and then moaning when they get bit by it. And I had issue when you infer the office just wanted to argue with you instead of listening.. without considering what information they had or why they believed it.

Instead we get credible information they were on the street and you saying it's not possible because you didn't see them.

Maybe at the end of the day.. they just missed your can. A simple human mistake that is possible... but instead we need to argue it's not possible they were there.. that no way their GPS is actually credible... and the HOA office just wanted to shut you down.

Don't you think if the office actually got a lot of complaints about missing pickups - they'd talk to the trash company about it?

Why does everyone need to assume the HOA office is always against them purely because things didn't go exactly as they wanted?

Instead of just saying your trash wasn't picked up... you've extended it to saying they never came to your street - without considering all the other possibilities that could have lead to the very same conclusion of your trash still being there.

If you and 10 other people called the office and said their trash wasn't picked up.. yet the GPS showed trucks went through there I'm sure the office would have been calling Patriot to see what's up.

It's not always a conspiracy... sometimes little things just happen.

I didn't moan about it, and to be honest I don't think anyone else in this thread did either. Both Capricorn and I made it pretty clear, I think, that it wasn't a big deal if the trash was missed, whether our fault or Patriot's.

If putting out trash in the morning is 'living life on the edge', I guess that's me. :) Sometimes they do beat me, and I have never and would never complain about that.

I didn't infer anything about the HOA office. They reported to me the information Patriot gave them. It seemed to be Patriot who wanted to argue instead of listen.

One of two things happened -- the truck went down our street and missed our trash bin, or the truck missed our street entirely. Personally I don't think it's very likely they would miss the bin if they actually drove down the street, which is why I think they missed the street entirely. I've seen plenty of inaccurate GPS data (just last week a contractor told me our street wasn't in his GPS, even though the street is over 4 years old) so forgive me for trusting my own senses over it. I can totally understand someone else not willing to trust what I say I didn't hear, but I do trust my own observation first.

Never said anything about the HOA office wanting to shut me down.

Non-sequitor. Patriot seems to be the one arguing the point with their GPS data, and the HOA office did talk to them about it in my case. I have no idea if they got a lot of complaints or not.

Again, never accused the HOA office of being against me.

I have considered the possibilities, and I have pointed out repeatedly that our trash was out before the GPS says their truck came down our street.

Again, the HOA office did talk to Patriot, I don't know whether 10 other people called or not.

But are you claiming that it takes 11 people for a report of missed trash to be valid? If it is possible, as you say, that they missed our trash bin and only our trash bin, then I would be the only one with a reason to call. Are you suggesting my report should be ignored because nobody else calls?

And on a street with only 13 homes, does that mean that, according to you, if they did miss our street, all but two homes would have to report it? I think the tendency for people in this forum to attack anyone who even hints that the HOA might not be perfect would probably keep at least a few of them from bothering to report it. Heck, I'm being attacked for being critical of the HOA even though I have done no such thing. The HOA did contact Patriot and for all I know I was the only person who reported it. So I am not in any way criticizing the HOA here.

Nobody's claiming a conspiracy, as I said from the beginning, I'm sure the trash being missed was just an oversight. That's not a big deal, but the distrust and the attacks that come against anyone who suggests anything that might possibly be considered negative about the HOA are ridiculous.

So much for the theory that they pick up at a consistent time. 5:48 PM and I'm watching them out of the window picking up the recycling now...

If they only did 50% of the normal volume Monday (because many people did not put out their trash) then they probably had 150% of their normal volume today (assuming the total neighborhood trash is about the same, on average, week to week). That could explain the different schedules both days.

7:08PM and they just picked up the Trash & Recycling on Sunstone/Ridgeway. Odd because they normally don't p/u both with the same truck.

As for the Monday pick-up...was the County Landfill even Open?

good point, and the fact that recycling would have a little extra volume from all you sun worshippers depositing a few extra beverage containers... I know I had a couple 'extra' Sierra Nevada bottles in mine
