My husband called Verizon today - and got absolutely nowhere.

You'd think that once they put a full color flyer in your door "FIOS is coming!" that they would have some sort of customer service ready to answer potential customer questions.

Instead, they point you to the website, or browse the pages themselves on the phone, and have no answers.

One tech didn't even know what Voice over IP was. When a subsequent person did know, they said it was Voice Wing and a separate part of Verizon, not included in any bundled packages. A call to the VoiceWing folks returned exactly the opposite information, that it is, in fact, in bundled packages.

Customer service also stated that it's possible that not all FIOS services will be available in our area once fiber is installed. Therefore, they can't quote you any pricing since they don't know what you can get in your area. Their answer is to wait until the FIOS lines are run, then check the website.

You would think that you could use the website to tick-off the services you want:

    digital HDTV with a DVR
    digital HDTV extension
    wireless service with XX plan
    VoIP
    broadband at XX speed

and the website would find the best bundle package for you.

I don't think Verizon is making a very good first impression to potential customers. It begs the adage: Don't buy version 1.0 of anything.

I've set myself expecting a good hour on the phone with Verizon once availability does come. I've been practicing. I can punch in my phone number in 2 seconds flat. I can say 'Yes' like a pro. I have 'Does ANYONE there speak English?' ready to go in 6 different languages.

But anyway, we're looking for a similar package. Internet / tv with the super dvr and an extra unit, landline voice and combining our cell plans.

Ohhhh can't wait for that day of headaches.

I asked a Verizon rep and the price for 10MB/s down, 2MB/s up FiOS (internet only) is $47.99.

FIOS isn't 1.0... it's been around for like 4-5years now... we're just in a podunk part of the country so we got it last :(

But yes, I've never had a great time with Vz Core support.... but I haven't had to talk to anyone -- I just ordered online and it got installed. Data only. Our VOIP works with it decently.... maybe not as good as Comcast/Adelphia tho, but it's cheaper and faster uplink!
