I'd like to reinstall Windows XP to get a clean installation and eliminate a few years' worth of junk but I can't find my XP CD. I have the product code (and license) for it but I need the CD to begin the re-installation. Does anyone have an XP setup CD that I can borrow? Thanks in advance for any help.

    XP Home edition.

I actually was able to install a copy of Windows 7 that I bought for our other computer but I haven't gone online for it to try to register itself. When it does it will fail since it's already registered to another PC.

I'm not sure if it's changed, but you used to be able to activate XP multiple times by calling MS and saying you were just reinstalling or something and they would give you an activation code... not sure if you can still do that, but you could try ;)

Thanks, Boomer. I think that can be done but I needed the CD to boot from for a fresh install. I don't need it anymore because now that I got obsessed with getting it back to work yesterday I bought Windows 7 at Costco.

According to the Windows 7 compatibility test the computer will not run it because it has only 512MB RAM and an older graphics card. However, when I googled about it I found that people were able to have it work anyway under those conditions. So I installed Windows 7 (from my other copy I had purchased for our laptop in case I needed to return the one I bought at Costco) and it runs okay. I decided to just upgrade the RAM and graphics card and keep the Windows 7 since it's probably best in the long run. I just ordered from Newegg and should receive the hardware this week to get the machine up and running at optimum performance levels.

I cannot imagine where the XP software and documentation is and didn't expect to do all this but oh well!

P.S. I checked the Windows 7 compatibility website before ordering and the graphics card I ordered is supported.

Anyway... I should quit fiddling around with it and ignoring my kid!
