Does anyone have advice on getting a windshield replaced? I have a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee...and the going rate i've found seems to be around $250 for a plain-jane windshield. It doesn't necessarily have to be one that comes to the house/office....I've tried a few different places, and they're all around the same price.
Has anyone had experience with auto glass places that they got a good deal on? Thanks!

    Go thru your insurance.

My understanding is that Virginia law requires windshield coverage to be a part of every insurance policy. Call your insurance company and they'll put you in contact with an auto glass company. That company will look at the damage and decide to repair or replace the windshield. In my case the company came to my office and did the work in the parking lot. I did not have to pay a deductible or any other fee.

First depending on your deductible I wouldnt necessarily call your insurance company. Ive replaced 3 windshields in the last 9 months. One was a company the dealer recommended, and two with Safelite. An interesting point when I got the quote from my insurance companies prefered company on the first repair it was actually higher than calling the dealer reccommended company directly. That window is one that has heating colis,etc.. in it. Since I was footing the whole bill on that one, I went with the cheaper company (cheaper by $200 btw). And both used mobile service.

I think if your just getting a plain window, the costs are pretty comparable and doesnt matter if you bring it in or they come to you.

Why go through insurance for such a small claim? They can just use it as a reason to jack up your rate and it will probably cost you more in the long run than just paying it yourself.

I used Safelite a couple of years ago.. $200 to replace a VW Jetta windshield and they came out to my house to do it. Very quick and easy.

i went through my insurance company to replace my wife's windshield less than a year ago--i have $250 deductible..and when all was said and done...GEICO coughed up $6. It was convenient to have them come to the office...and they did a great job. I was just hoping to maybe come in under the $250 mark on this one....guess that won't be possible. Safelite quoted me $250 too.

    Thanks for the input!
