Halloween Costume Drive

This summer, Broadlands is supporting a Halloween costume drive to benefit Let’s Help Kids. Nine-year-old Rachel Harris started Let’s Help Kids (LHK) in 2010 when she was 6 years old, with a mission to help elementary-school aged children whose families are experiencing financial hardship. LHK, a 501(c) 3 nonprofit, provides them with special items or experiences that they otherwise could not afford. Let’s Help Kids targets children in K-6 grade, from Alexandria, Arlington, Fairfax, Loudoun and Prince William Counties. While many organizations provide food, shelter and financial assistance to struggling families, LHK provides non-basic needs, such as birthday presents, Halloween costumes, bicycles, dance or sports lessons, books, or movie or amusement park tickets. LHK relies on monetary donations to purchase new items for children in need. Since its beginning, LHK has raised more than $60K and provided gifts to more than 500 children. Costumes collected will be resold this fall at a nominal price. The funds collected will enable LHK to help more kids. You can drop of your gently used, cleaned and bagged Halloween costume into the LHK collection box at Broadland’s Nature Center, located at 21907 Claiborne Parkway, now through August. More information about LHK and their events can be found at www.letshelpkids.org.

Community Meeting – Belmont Ridge Road Widening Project

Last year the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors approved funding to widen Belmont Ridge Road to four lanes between Broadlands Boulevard and Truro Parish Drive.  This widening project will include a traffic signal at the intersection of Truro Parish.  Supervisor Williams plans to facilitate a community meeting on this project next week:

Community Meeting – Belmont Ridge Road Widening Project

Hillside Elementary School (43000 Ellzey Drive, Broadlands)

July 23rd, 7:00pm

Representatives from the Loudoun County Department of Transportation and Capital Infrastructure as well as the Virginia Department of Transportation will be on hand to answer questions associated with this project.   Additionally, a representative from Lennar, the contractor building the road, will be available to share details about the construction process.

If you have any questions about the meeting, please email shawn.williams@loudoun.gov or call his office at 703-771-5088.

Flick in the Sticks – Tonight (July 6th)

Rise of the Guardians Movie PosterIt’s our 9th season and Flicks is presenting another night of family entertainment. Come join us for tonight’s showing of Rise of the Guardians at approximately 8:45PM on the Nature Center lawn. Bring a picnic dinner – or pick up something from one of the great local restaurants – and stake out your spot on the lawn. Coolers, lawn chairs, and picnic blankets are welcome. Free popcorn and drinks are provided. This is a popular event, so come early for a good seat!

One lucky person will take home the DVD of tonight’s movie in a random drawing from all attendees. Tickets for the drawing are distributed before the movie starts. Drawing will be held immediately after the movie and winner must be present.

Here’s a short synopsis of tonight’s movie:

When the evil spirit Pitch launches an assault on Earth, the Immortal Guardians team up to protect the innocence of children all around the world. PG, 97 mins. [Parental Guidance]

Flicks in the Sticks is a FREE event for Broadlands residents and their guests ONLY.

Flicks in the Sticks is brought to you by the HOA Technology Committee.

Welcome to Our New Look!

Welcome to the “new and improved” Broadlands HOA website! It’s been quite a while in the making, and we continue to make improvements.

While the organization is slightly different from the “old” site, you’ll still find the popular stuff: design guidelines, pool information, newsletters – and an upgraded version of the discussion forums.

Best of all, you can now access all this information on your mobile device – even the forums. This new site is entirely mobile optimized!
